Game one of Skid's season at Citi. APRIL 6th - GAME #6 vs Cincinnati Reds (1-4)
Jonathon Niese seems to be healthy enough to make his season debut against the Reds Alfredo Simon. Although Lucas Duda has been named the regular 1B, Ike Davis is starting in today's game. This was announced before he hit his walk off shot yesterday. Bobby Parnell is going to have season ending Tommy John surgery. He will undergo surgery on Tuesday to replace a partially-torn MCL in his right elbow. The procedure typically requires a 12-month recovery so he could conceivably save Matt Harvey's Opening Day start in 2015! (I won't hold my breath). Down on the farm in Las Vegas starters Jacob deGrom, Rafael Montero and Noah Syndergaard have combined to produce a 1.50 ERA with 16 strikeouts and two walks through the 51's first three games. Reliever Josh Edgin gave up 3 hits, 2 walks and 5 runs in 2/3 of an inning Saturday. Don't expect him in the New York bullpen anytime soon. I am doing the 2 hour drive to Fresno this weekend to see the 51's play Friday & Saturday (maybe even Sunday - if I can talk the wife into a 3-game weekend!).

2-4

Jon Niese pitched well for a guy who seemed destined for the DL all spring. 5.2 IP, 2 runs, 6 hits, 1 walk and 4 K's. A quick two and a half hour game that depending on how you look at it, was either dominated by Reds starter Alfredo Simon or barren of Mets offense as they only had 4 hits. Half of those hits were by Saturday's hero Ike Davis but slightly less dramatic as he poked a double down the left field line beating the Red's shift and the other was a bounder off the first base bag that went to no man's land for a single. The Mets bullpen of German, Farnsworth, and Valverde kept the Reds off the board giving up 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5 in 3.1 innings. Travis d'Arnaud is now o'fer 15 with two walks to start the year. Juan Lagares has hit in 5 of the 6 games so far.

So Sunday games are tough for me because I usually leave for church as the games are starting on the East coast. By the time I get home the game is over or close to it. And since it is relax day for the wife I don't always have control of the TV. So while she watched some show about a guy who has five wives (really?) I headed out for some music and the continual clean up project that is known as my garage. It was mostly Tumblebugs on my old PC that I moved out there but I did move a couple old boxes around. And in a daft moment of boredom I checked my phone for emails, then my newsfeed that has BASEBALL NEWS! Dummy! First article to pop up was "Reds comeback to defeat Mets 2-1". DOH! I hate to watch a game when I already know the score but today I made an exception, especially since I'm doing this website of home games. Luckily it was a quick game and since I had DVR'd it, I skipped through the commercial breaks and was done in less than two hours. Reason #172 why I want to go to Citi Field and be at every home game. Next one is against the Braves in 12 days.
