7-8pm -- Modern Marvels - World's Sharpest
It's time to slice and dice! Take a cutting-edge look at the most
amazing blades in the world, from the legendary sword of the samurai
warrior with an edge sharp enough to sever a man's arm in a single
swipe, to industrial shredder blades capable of gobbling anything from
a sofa to a fridge, to the precision slicing power of lasers and
plasma.

8-9pm -- The Presidents - 1789-1825.
Based on the book To the Best of My Ability, this 8-part series
provides an insightful look at the exclusive group of men from all
walks of life and parts of the country who have led America from the
Oval Office. Part 1 probes the Constitutional Era, when the fledgling
nation's revolutionary Founding Fathers became its first
administrators. From George Washington, who defined the presidency, to
James Monroe, the last of the Revolutionary War heroes, the office of
president evolves and is tested as the United States undergoes growing
pains. Defining moments include Washington's Whisky Rebellion, John
Adams' XYZ Affair, Thomas Jefferson's Louisiana Purchase, James
Madison's War of 1812, and the Monroe Doctrine. We also examine the
human side of the Presidents, offering a look at their strengths and
weaknesses, their families, and accomplishments.

9-10pm -- The Presidents - 1825-1849.
In Part 2, America's leadership changes hands from the Founding
Fathers to a new breed of Founding Sons. The period marked rapid
growth and contentious politics, including the bitterest election in
US history and first decided by popular vote--the election of 1828.
The imposing figure of Andrew Jackson dominates as he impresses his
will upon the nation, heralding the era of the Common Man and Manifest
Destiny. We also peruse the putrid politics of John Quincy Adams'
presidency; Battle of the Petticoats; Indian Removal Act; Bank War;
economic turmoil during Martin Van Buren's term; William Henry
Harrison's death, the first succession crisis, elevation of Vice
President John Tyler ("His Accidency"), and the first impeachment
resolution against a president; and exploits of James K. Polk, who
took the US to war with Mexico and expanded the nation "from Sea to
Shining Sea."

10-11pm -- The Presidents - 1865-1885.
During America's Age of Reconstruction, from Andrew Johnson (Lincoln's
vice president) to Chester A. Arthur, the ruptured nation faced the
difficult task of rebuilding a union after four years of civil war and
a presidential assassination. This period was also known as the era of
"The Ohio Generals"--three of the five presidents featured in this
hour were generals in the Civil War, all from the state of Ohio.
Defining moments include the impeachment trial of Andrew Johnson (by a
margin of one, the Senate voted not to convict him), the triumphant
ascendancy of Ulysses S. Grant, the back-room politics of Rutherford
B. Hayes, the unrequited aspirations of James Garfield, and the civil
service reforms of Chester A. Arthur.

11pm -- The Presidents - 1913-1945
This hour looks at a challenging period of US history that was marked
by financial depression and two world wars. This era also witnessed
America's emergence as a player on the world stage and ultimately a
superpower. In 1917, Woodrow Wilson proclaimed American entrance into
World War One a crusade to make the world "safe for democracy." After
the war's end, he asserted international leadership in building a new
world order. Harding watched as scandals rocked his administration.
Calvin Coolidge ushered the nation to a dangerous economic precipice
that became the Great Depression during Herbert Hoover's years. And
finally, we look at the three terms of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who
helped the nation recover from the Depression and led it through the
Second World War.

7-8pm -- Modern Marvels - Howard Hughes Tech.
An in-depth look at the technology conceived or developed by America's
first billionaire. A passionate aviator, Howard Hughes built and flew
planes that broke speed records, and developed war machines, spy
aircraft, and commercial airliners. Despite the impressive heights
reached by his technological empire, his health and mental well-being
were fragile. During his last years, he wasn't seen publicly or
photographed, rarely left the hotel suites he occupied, and was
terrified of germs. But when Hughes died in 1976, he left a huge
legacy in aviation and technology. When we board an airliner, view TV
via satellite, or marvel at America's military might, we might do well
to remember the risk-taker who flew faster than his peers and was at
heart an aviator obsessively dedicated to both the art and science of
flight.

8-9pm -- Decoding The Past - Doomsday 2012: The End of Days

Chinese oracle of the I Ching all point to this specific date as the
end of civilization. A new technology called "The Web-Bot Project"
makes massive scans of the internet as a means of forecasting the
future... and has turned up the same dreaded date: 2012. Skeptics
point to a long history of "Failed Doomsdays", but many oracles of
doom throughout history have a disturbingly accurate track record. As
the year 2012 ticks ever closer we'll speculate if there are any
reasons to believe these doomsayers.

results will surprise you. One-part history, one-part science and one
part monster, discover the truth behind these beasts and take a
scientific look at legendary creatures around the world. The best
evidence available will be examined, from pictures and video, to hair
and bones. Scientists will be brought in to tell viewers what the
evidence reveals. Ultimately the evidence will reveal the truth....or
in some cases continue the mystery.

9-10pm -- MonsterQuest - Sasquatch Attack II
Something has been attacking a remote cabin in Northern Ontario,
Canada--it may have left behind a blood trail. DNA analysis suggests
that the creature is a non-human primate. A follow up test will
confirm or deny this, and the results could change history. Meanwhile,
a new expedition, outfitted with the most advanced surveillance and
detection equipment, will set up camp at the cabin and wait for the
creature's imminent return. Scientists will be brought in to tell
viewers what the evidence reveals.

10-11pm -- UFO Hunters - Heartland Explosion
Late in the evening of April 16th, 2008, the tiny town of Kokomo,
Indiana was rocked by an ear-piercing, high decibel boom. Houses
shook. Thousands of panicked citizens called 911. Police, firefighters
and Homeland Security showed up to investigate. And witnesses claimed
to see strange orange balls of light in the sky attached to something
they couldn't identify. The team heads to the heartland to unravel the
clues behind the strange booms and menacing lights over the skies of
Indiana, one of the most current UFO sightings in America. One of the
most common theories is that the noise was caused by the sonic boom
from a military jet, but new findings from UFO HUNTERS call this
theory into serious question.

7-8pm -- Modern Marvels - Civil War Tech.
America protects its homeland with the most technologically advanced
military force ever conceived. Although they fight 21st-century
battles worldwide, the technology unleashed is directly descended from
a war fought more than 140 years ago. This episode explores how the
War between North and South was the first modern war, and the
technology used in it was a quantum leap beyond any previous conflict.
The machine gun, aerial reconnaissance, advanced battlefield medicine,
instantaneous communication, ironclad ships, even the first aircraft
carrier were all innovations developed during the Civil War. We'll
investigate improvements in weapons, sea power, transportation, troop
conveyance, food processing, medical care, and telecommunications. At
a time when the nation was divided, Civil War technology
revolutionized the way war was waged. Today, those technological
milestones have evolved to ensure that our modern military has no
equal in the world.

Poachers are killing the rare Gorillas of Congo, and they are paying
Rwanda's genocidal maniacs to protect them while they practice their
deadly trade. For the park rangers protecting the Gorillas, it's all
out war and they are heavily outnumbered. The team brings in special
communications equipment that allows the rangers to track the Gorilla
populations and call for help when they run into rebels. In Congo,
this kind of equipment gives the edge to anyone who has it, and the
team soon finds out that it is being targeted by "other" agencies.
It's a race against the clock to get the equipment into the hands of
the park rangers and show them how to tactically hide it during combat
operations, and keep it away from others who may be trying to steal
it.

percent of communication--only seven percent of understanding derives
from words. Experts in non-verbal signals will deconstruct video
footage of people from iconic moments in history, past and present, to
reveal what was truly being said. Learn how subtle movements are used
to persuade masses, establish power, and advance careers--most often
without anyone knowing it.

10-12am -- The Greatest Tunnel Ever Built -
The Sandhogs, legendary urban tunnel workers, have been carving out
New York City's underground infrastructure for the past century. This
is the tale of the union's present and future: veteran mouthpiece,

his genius electrified the world. Travel to Niagara Falls, where in
1893, Tesla installed his new system of Alternating Electrical Current
known as AC--the same power we use today. Uncover the forgotten ruins
of Tesla's dream experiment---a huge tower on Long Island Sound he
hoped would wirelessly power the world. Radar, death rays,
invisibility devices and earthquake machines: Tesla claimed to have
created them all. More than 100 years ago Tesla foresaw the need for
alternative energies like geothermal and solar.

Take a tour of the cosmic hot zones--black holes, galaxy mergers,
gamma ray bursts and magnetars. Super massive black holes can
literally "lasso" the Earth out of the solar system. A clash between
two galaxies can result in a barbaric ritual called "galactic
cannibalism" in which the dominant galaxy's super massive black hole
literally eats the weaker one. Magnetars are a cosmic magnetic force
so strong it could wipe out data on every credit card on the planet.
Cutting-edge computer graphics are used to bring the universe down to
earth to show what life would be like on other planets, and to imagine
what kind of life forms might evolve in alien atmospheres.

9-10pm -- The Universe - Parallel Universes
Some of the world's leading physicists believe they have found
startling new evidence showing the existence of universes other than
our own. One possibility is that the universe is so vast that an exact
replica of our Solar System, our planet and ourselves exists many
times over. These Doppelganger Universes exist within our own
Universe; in what scientist now call "The Multiverse." Today,
trailblazing experiments by state of the art particle colliders are
looking for evidence of higher dimensions and Parallel Universes. If
proof is found, it will change our lives, our minds, our planet, our
science and our universe.

Throughout history there have been sightings of a massive Octopus big
enough to attack and sink boats. Could such a creature really exist?
Our divers probe the depths of the North Pacific where the world's
largest known species of octopus lives. Could these octopuses be a
food source for a monster? The investigation will use various
underwater camera systems, including a tiny camera small enough to
probe inside octopus lairs. Deep waters, rough currents, freezing
temperatures and the prospect of encountering a 20-ton boneless horror
make this a dangerous expedition.

10-11pm -- UFO Hunters - First Contact
On April 19, 1897, the Dallas Morning News reported a mysterious
airship had crashed into a windmill in the nearby town of Aurora,
Texas. Townspeople were said to have found an alien body and buried it
in the local graveyard; the crash debris was dumped into a local well.
More than 40 years later, the ranch owners were reporting skin lesions
and crippling rheumatoid arthritis, which they attributed to tainted
well water. The well was sealed over and forgotten. Now, more than a
century after the event, the team will reopen the well, and search for
the legendary grave, as they attempt to solve one of the earliest UFO

Good Morning, Mr. Bond

Episodes of the quirky Northern Exposure are on Hallmark Channel. And episodes of the even quirkier "Twin Peaks" are sometimes on Bravo. Monstervision review & host segments of the Twin Peaks movie "Firewalk With Me."

Fun fact:
Griffith Park Observatory According to Ripley's Believe It Or Not, the 800-mile long Aruwimi River, which flows through the Aruwimi Forest in the Congo, was unwittingly named by famous explorer David Livingstone. He asked a native what the name of the river was. The native replied "Aruwimi," which means, "What is he saying?"

In 1942, Adolf Hitler inherited 9,000 acres of grazing land in Colorado from German relatives. The PT Boat of WW2 was based on a blueprint from Andrew Higgins, a bootlegger who had used the speedboat design for rumrunning during Prohibition. And Arlington National Cemetery has four Tomb Of The Unknown Soldiers (WW1, WW2, Korea & Vietnam) but only 3 bodies: identification processes have become so good that all remains returned from Vietnam are eventually identified!

In 1963, ventriloquist Paul Winchell was awarded a patent for the first successful artificial heart. The plastic heart was first tested on a calf, which lived 94 days.

“The soul without imagination is what an observatory would be without a telescope”

"I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:
1. Anything that is in the world when you're born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
2. Anything that's invented between when you're fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things." Douglas Adams (1952-2001, Hitchhhiker's Guide to the Galaxy)
