When I arrived at around midday they weren't to arrive till around 2 so I went walk abouts around Nottingham picking up some cool stuff.
When I returned I looked to see Dan, John and Jake all climbing out a minibus to go into the venue, The Royal Centre. I waved to Dan, he kinda half walked over to me, i then pulled out my cd's and asked him to sign them. We said hey and amazingily even talked about baby names! (his little girl is called Coco). It was father's day around that time aswell and my dad had also just got engaged so I thought the perfect father's day present would be to buy him Semisonic's recent All About Chemistry album and get them to write congrates on it and stuff. Dan did just that aswell as signing all my semisonic albums and a gigantic poster which isnow framed. We also talked about the semisonic message board and stuff and the mystery that is Maskipper.
I asked if he could ask John and Jake to come out and sign my stuff. By this time it was kinda raining. But to my amazement, out walked Jake three minutes later, clutching a cup of coffee kinda looking around. He spotted me and walked across asking if I was Eddy. I said hey and he signed my stuff. As Jake was signing my stuff, out walked John, who recently got engaged and came over.
John asked where I bought my semisonic albums, i said my local indie and All About Chemistry over the web. He seemed keen on the web. We again talked about the message board and songs those two had wrote. They both signed my stuff. John seemed cold so shook my hand and went back into the venue. Jake asked if i had seen any record shops across Nottingham, I replied yes, so we kinda went round Nottingham for a good hour looking in record shops. it was totally cool! i couldn't believe it! also, all the semisonic guys tower over 6 foot so i kinda looked short against him.
He bought their Chemistry single (he wanted to hear the remix etc.) and was after other cd's but couldn't find any he liked. He pointed to certain artists asking if i liked them or i'd seen them (examples were JJ72 and coldplay). I asked how my fave bands (Everclear, Filter) were doing in America and who is big over there and how big certain bands are. He also told me his view on the greatness of the English! well, we got back to the venue... he went to soundcheck and i was hungry so i went to something to eat... later meeting my father up who travelled up later with my new step mum and was REALLY happy with the cd....
The gig totally ruled. the crowd were fantastic, as were the guys. there was alot of energy, aswell as passion and some superb between songs stories from Dan. I picked up a tour t-shirt which i really wanted so i was happy with that! They over ran their set big time as curfew was at 11. so they missed out El Matador, but they ended with my fave song, California so i left really happy. the setlist was (which i managed to get thanks to Kev, which i repayed by giving him John's pleck i was given)....

then they left to defining applause. even better was that when i met Dan i gave him a cut out i got from Q magazine, where they gave semisonic's new album 5/5. Dan spotted that they got Get a Grip a tad wrong. they said it was about wanking. Dan said no it isn't, it's about masturbation, not wanking then, which had the audience in laughter.
Great night out.
