The Sink Was Full Of Fishes

"Everything we fight and suffer for,or it would vanish in face of Love,or it is Love"

Chapter 5 Page 8

"Jill, I hope I didn't make you put aside your University commitments with my request... Did I? I hope I haven't been chaining you up in unfair mode..."
"Don't worry... yeah, the semester tests are coming soon but I am ready for them. And it's a pleasure to help you making this HOLE liveable.. ahahah!"
"Beware... ants get killed in holes...ahaha!"
They were joking with one another like they had made it for years, with that accomplishment and openess that makes one up for a smile rather than a closing thought, with the faith everything's said with favourable intention.
"I just want you to know that studies can't be forgotten without damaging results. To have a good school career helps in working times. Look at me: I completed everything in time, and in Italy's not the rule... well, now I have already a most satisfying job, and all due to past sacrifices. In the end, time well spent at school is time saved and worthy when you choose your job options."
Steve had the feeling his words could have helped Jill.
He couldn't know, but in fact that was correct as Jill, a very skilled student, smart and quick in learning, had always been a floating performer:unable to focuse constantly, he was learning in rushing trances, giving his best only when under pressure.
His luck was that his best was generally way above others' tops.
"I don't live over books... but my grades are really great!"
"Lucky you... I always had to concentrate and sweat to obtain the best!"
Jill looked at him: he was merely one year older. Both were born in the winter season: Jill was a February's son, Steve a March's.
"Aquarius and Phisces really don't click with one another they say.."
"Who cares? I don't trust horoscopes anyway: I find affinity with people, not with stars above their heads... I can say I click with you well, and that's all."
Jill pointed out on Steve his green brush, menacing some body paint session:
"I do agree with you. Now reality is that I have a good friend who's so into these stuff, and she makes me crazy all the time with trigonis and planets oppositions: I think some way she's makin me deviating from good ways of reasoning. She's called Kass..."
Jill started to describe her in the typically malish way: not gross, but not even discrete.
"So you do flirt with her don't you?"
"Not really.. I'd say more the other way round... well, actually, I should say that..."
"You should say what?"
Steve was standing without painting anymore, studying out why Jill was talking so embarassed about Kass.
"Actually.. we're kinda together at the moment..."
Steve got gobsmacked: during the entire conversation Jill had talked about this girl not like she belonged to him, but more like one of those women men do naughty thoughts about at night.
"So.. okay...She loves you and you make sex with her. Am I correct?"
It sounded brutal, but that was sounding like the truth anyway and Jill confirmed.Instead of receiving from Steve advices about the right behaviours a man should show to a girl, though, silence fell between them.
Steve was thoughtfully silent, unmoving, fixing the wall hand on air.
Then he started low-voiced:
"I find this quite sad...It's so uneasy to not give back love to someone who gifts you with hers... it makes one feel bad, almost like when another one refuses your own love.It's... yeah, it's really sad."
"You're talking like you are an expert in these things..."
"Oh... don't mind... and by the way, to not feel love or to not feel enough of it to make important choices are almost the same thing. And both make everyone involved suffering a lot..."
