Kayli officially became ours today. After breakfast, we walked about a half a mile from our hotel to the Civil Affairs Office.
from the buffet breakfast ![]() An official read a legal document to us and then presented Kayli with a stuffed panda bear. The whole little ceremony took about ten minutes. We then took a twenty-minute taxi ride to the police station to apply for Kayli’s passport. This also went very fast. Kayli was not her normal cheerful self. She wanted to curl up into a ball and hide in Grace’s lap. Perhaps it was the austere-looking government buildings. However, she shortly recovered and we went shoe shopping. We bargained down the price of a beautiful pair of white leather shoes with some sparkles on them for Kayli.
world traveler squirrel ![]() We bought McDonald's for lunch. Kayli was tired and had a little meltdown in the early afternoon. We went swimming at the indoor swimming pool here.
![]() Kayli likes to get out of the pool and dry herself off every few minutes and them jump back in. My boys just swim like otters playing all sorts of games. The Chinese workers would often just stand and watch them play. In the evening, Grandpa and I walked a half mile or so to KFC. We couldn’t find it at first and then Grandpa asked a policeman where KFC was. In order to ensure the policeman knew what store we were looking for, he bawked like a chicken and flapped his arms!
she's not impressed ![]() We are finding that many people here speak English. We all get to bed about 9:00pm. Kayli whimpers a little at bedtime but sleeps through the night.
