Introduction

We have all seen the movie “Finding Nemo”. We have all loved the little clown fish and his motley set of friends. But now imagine what kind of a world Nemo would have to live in if the beautiful exotic surroundings of his habitat were engulfed in brown mucky water or if the lives of his friends were constantly threatened by human apathy. Today you have been called upon to make sure that this scenario does not come true in one of Nemo’s magnificent habitats…

THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS

The Galapagos is an archipelago of unraveled beauty mystery and amazing creatures. It is one of the most beautiful and unique places on Earth. Since Charles Darwin explored them in 1835, scientists and naturalists have considered them to be a very special place where nature has marched on in relative isolation. In 1978, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), designated the Galápagos as one of the first natural World Heritage Sites.

Today the Galapagos are one of the world’s last remaining natural resources. However these magnificent islands are in ongoing DANGER! Through this webquest you are going to be called upon to make a difference!

The aim of this exercise is to learn how to empower yourself in a quest to affect change.

Executing this webquest will require you to tap into your prior knowledge of islands and their habitats in order to gain a basic understanding of the Galapagos. This quest will also allow you to put into practice what you have learned in your character building class. That is to stand up for what you believe in and take action rather than simply talk about it.
