Highlands vs. Boyle County

Rebel Stadium

© 2025 by Ron Harrison

This was an eagerly anticipated match-up between two of the top ranked 4A teams in the state and Boyle County upset previously undefeated Highland by the score of 21-20. The Rebels were without the services of starting QB Baylor Murphy who was out with an injury but Rhet Raleigh filled in capably and coupled with a big night on the ground from Ji’Dyn Smith-Hisel it proved to be enough for the win. Boyle County coach Justin Haddix pulled the proverbial “Rabbit Out of the Hat” late in the game by completing a 4th and long pass by Raleigh from their own territory to get the first down and allow the Rebels to run out the clock. The Rebel defense also came up big tonight keeping the Bluebird high octane offense in check. Boyle County recorded 443 yards of total offense and lost two fumbles. Highlands recorded 241 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.

Ji’Dyn Smith Hisel led Boyle County’s ground game with 208 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. Bubby McPherson carried the ball nine times for 38 yards. Rhet Raleigh completed nine of 12 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown. Seneca Driver caught one pass for 84 yards and a touchdown. Nathaniel Schepman recorded two receptions for 50 yards. Ashton Drakeford caught one pass for 26 yards. Lucas Akers led the defense with six solo and seven assisted tackles. Kain Logan added four solo and six assisted tackles. Brayden Borders-Coffman recorded two solo and eight assisted tackles. Seneca Driver added two solo and six assisted tackles and intercepted a pass. Ashton Drakeford recorded four solo and four assisted tackles. Darryl Yancey chipped in with one solo and six assisted tackles.

Gabe Williams led Highlands ground game with 60 yards on 12 carries. Colt Kremer carried the ball three times for 28 yards. Tayden Lorenzen recorded nine yards and a touchdown on five carries. Rio Litmer carried the ball three times for three yards. Rio Litmer completed 13 of 31 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Ian Garrahan caught two passes for 40 yards and a touchdown. Gabe Williams added six receptions for 39 yards. Tayden Lorenzen added one reception for 30 yards.
