Liberty (30-6) vs. Yorkville (Christian) (25-13) Class A (Championship)

 

Liberty coach Greg Altmix started the following lineup: 6-5 Sr. Logan Robbins, 6-4 Sr. Breiton Klingele, 6-6 Sr. Devin Klauser, 5-11 Sr. Cannen Wolf, and 6-2 Sr. Clayton Obert.  Yorkville (Christian) coach Aaron Sovern countered with 6-4 Jr. Brayden Long, 6-3 Jr. David Douglas Jr., 6-6 Sr. Jaden Schutt, 6-2 Sr. K.J. Vasser, and 6-2 Sr. Tyler Burrows.

 

Liberty led 21-20 at halftime but Yorkville (Christian) outscored the Eagles 34-20 in the second half for a 54-41 victory.  There were two ties and 14 lead changes in this game.  Yorkville (Christian) shot 38.3% from the field including six of 26 from the three point line.  The Mustangs connected on 12 of 14 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 11 Liberty turnovers.  Liberty shot 37.8% from the field including four of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on three of four free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored seven points off seven Yorkville (Christian) turnovers.

 

K.J. Vasser led a balanced Yorkville (Christian) with 15 points including four of four free throws, seven rebounds, and two steals.  Tyler Burrows added 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.  Jaden Schutt recorded 12 points, six rebounds, two assists, and four steals.  David Douglas Jr. chipped in with 11 points including two three point baskets, three of four free throws, and five rebounds.

 

Cannen Wolf led Liberty with 15 points including three tree point baskets, tree rebounds, and four assists.  Devin Klauser added 13 points and five rebounds.  Logan Robbins recorded seven points, tree rebounds, and six assists.  Clayton Obert pulled down nine rebounds.

Nashville defeated Monticello by the score of 32-31.  The score was tied twice and there were eight lead changes in the game.  Nashville shot 36.4% from the field including two of 12 from the three point line.  The Hornets connected on six of 10 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored six points off nine Monticello turnovers.  Monticello shot 35.5% from the field including tree of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Sages connected on six of nine free throws, pulled down 18 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 10 Nashville turnovers.

 

Kilten Gajewski  led Nashville with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  Isaac Turner added six points, four rebounds, tree assists, and two steals. 

 

Dylan Ginalick led Monticello with 11 points including four of five free throws and three assists.  Ben Cresap added eight points.  Tann Buehnerkemper pulled down 10 rebounds.

Metamora coach Danny Grieves started the following lineup: 6-3 Sr. Zack Schroeder, 6-2 Jr. Tyson Swanson, 6-6 Jr. Ethan Kizer, 6-0 So. Tyler Mason, and 6-2 Jr. Drew Tucker, Sacred Heart Griffin countered with 6-3 Jr. Jake Hamilton, 6-3 Jr. Will Hamilton, 6-5 Jr. Zack Hawkinson, 5-10 Jr. J’veon Bardwell, and 6-1 Jr. Keshon Singleton.

 

Sacred Heart Griffin defeated Metamora 53-50 in two overtimes.  Metamora led 34-27 after three quarters but the Cyclones rallied for the win. The score was tied nine times and there were nine lead changes in this game.  Metamora’s Zack Schroeder fouled out with 2:58 remaining in the second overtime.  Sacred Heart Griffin shot 40% from the field including one of seven from the three point line.  The Cyclones connected on 12 of 16 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 13 Metamora turnovers.  Metamora shot 47.4% from the field including four of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Redbirds connected on 10 of 14 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored four points off nine Sacred Heart Griffin turnovers.

 

Zack Hawkinson led Sacred Heart Griffin with 27 points including seven of nine free throws, and 13 rebounds.  Jake Hamilton added nine points and four rebounds.  Keshon Singleton recorded nine points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

 

Tyson Swanson led Metamora with 17 points including three three point baskets.  Zack Schroeder added 11 points, nine rebounds, and three assists.  Drew Tucker recorded 10 points including four of four free throws.  Tyler Mason chipped in with nine points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Ethan Kizer added three points, seven rebounds, and five blocked shots.

Glen Ellyn (Glenbard West) defeated Whitney Young by the score of 56-34.  Glen Ellyn (Glenbard West) shot 57.9% from the field including five of 11 from the three point line.  The Hilltoppers connected on seven of 10 free throws, pulled down 18 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 13 Whitney Young turnovers.  Whitney Young shot 40% from the field including two of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Dolphins connected on four of six free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored six points off seven Glen Ellyn (Glenbard West) turnovers.

 

Paxton Warden led Glen Ellyn (Glenbard West) with 21 points including three tree point baskets.  Braden Huff added 19 points including two three point baskets.  Ryan Renfro recorded eight points, four rebounds, and three steals.

 

Xavier Amos led Whitney Young led with 14 points, five rebounds, and two assists.  A.J. Casey added six points and four rebounds.  Dalen Davis recorded six points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Belmont Local Union coach Louis Stolzda started the following lineup: 6-1 Jr. Torre Kildow, 5-7 Sr. Kiera Gregor, 6-0 Jr. Reagan Vinskovich, 5-2 Jr. Emmy Kellaway, and 5-7 Sr. Hannah Merritt.  Cincinnati Purcell Marian coach Jamar Mosley countered with 5-8 So. Cincinnati Purcell Marian defeated Belmont Union Local by the score of 59-43.  CPM led by three at halftime but pulled away in the second half.  There were four ties and six lead changes in this game.  CPM shot 43.6% from the field including three of 18 from the three point line.  The Lady Cavaliers connected on eight of 12 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 16 BUL turnovers.  BUL shot 28.1% from the field including four of 23 from beyond the arc.  The Jets connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 14 CPM turnovers.

 

Dee Alexander led CPM with 19 points including three of four free throws, 13 rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots.  Jayda Mosley added 18 points including two three point baskets, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Ky’Aira Miller recorded 11 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals. 

 

Reagan Vinskovich led BUL with 13 points including three of four free throws, and eight rebounds.  Torre Kildow added 13 points, six rebounds, three blocked shots, and two steals.  Hannah Merritt recorded 11 points including three three point baskets, three rebounds, and two assists.  Keira Gregor pulled down eight rebounds.

Worthington Christian raced out to a 17-4 first quarter lead on their way to a 55-24 victory over Apple Creek Waynedale.  WCH shot 27.5% from the field including eight of 25 from the three point line.  The Warriors connected on 11 of 15 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 16 ACW turnovers.  ACW shot 21.4% from the field including one of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Golden Bears connected on five of 10 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored seven points off 10 WCH turnovers.

 

Megan Weakley led WCH with 16 points including four three point baskets and two rebounds.  Meghan Mayotte added 14 points including six of six free throws, six rebounds, three blocked shots, and three steals.  Jaeda Tagoe recorded eight points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  Blessing King added six points, 12 rebounds, three assists, four blocked shots, and two steals. 

 

Cherlyn Miller led ACW with six points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Sr. Kylie Nussbaum and So. McKenna Baney each scored five points.  Brooklyn Yoder pulled down six rebounds.

Thornville Sheridan coach Justin Walters started the following lineup: 5-10 So. Jamisyn Stinson, 5-9 Fr. Halle Warner, 6-1 Se. Faith Stinson, 5-8 Sr. Bailey Beckstedt, and 5-9 Sr. Abby Dupler.  Norton coach Brian Miller countered with Sr. Bailey Accord, Jr. Addie Kropp, 5-10 Sr. Gabby Destefano, So. Morgan Hallett, and 5-6 Sr. Bailey Shutsa.

 

Thornville Sheridan defeated Norton 68-60 in overtime.  The second overtime ended in confusion as Morton’s Bailey Shutsa hit a 40 foot shot late for the apparent win but it was determined the shot came after the buzzer and the teams went to the third overtime where Thornville Sheridan outscored Norton 8-0 to finally earn the decision.  There were 11 ties and eight lead changes in this game.  Thornville Sheridan shot 37% from the field including seven of 15 from the three point line.  The Generals connected on 21 of 27 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 18 Norton turnovers.  Norton shot 35% from the field including eight of 24 from beyond the arc.  The Panthers connected on 10 of 19 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 20 Thornville Sheridan turnovers.

 

Jamisyn Stinson led Thornville Sheridan with 21 points including five three point baskets, five rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals.  Faith Stinson added 17 points including two three point baskets, five of six free throws, 11 rebounds, eight assists, and six blocked shots.  Halle Warner recorded 11 points including seven of eight free throws, and four rebounds.  Bailey Beckstedt chipped in with 10 points including six of eight free throws, two rebounds, and five assists.  5-11 So. Nora Saffell added seven points and 10 rebounds.

 

Gabby Destefano led Norton with 18 points including five three point baskets, nine rebounds, and two steals.  Bailey Shutsa added 18 points, two rebounds, four assists, and seven steals.  Addie Kropp recorded 13 points including three three point baskets, five rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots, and three steals.

Kettering Archbishop Alter defeated Columbus Bishop Hartley by the score of 69-33.  Alter shot 46.4% from the field including eight of 23 from the three point line.  The Knights connected on nine of 14 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 29 points off 29 CBH turnovers.  CBH shot 27.9% from the field including two of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Hawks connected on seven of 14 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 22 Alter turnovers.

 

Riley Smith led Alter with 19 points including three three point baskets, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Maddie Moody added 14 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Emma Hansley recorded six points on two three point baskets, six rebounds, four assists, and five steals.

 

Ella Brandewie led CBH with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Lexi Cashwell added eight points, seven rebounds, and two assists.  Kiki McElrath recorded seven points.

New Knoxville defeated Cincinnati Country Day by the score of 39-28.  New Knoxville shot 43.8% from the field including three of eight from the three point line.  The Rangers connected on eight of 11 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored nine points off 15 Cincinnati Country Day turnovers.  Cincinnati Country Day shot 26.3% from the field including three of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Nighthawks connected on five of seven free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored one point off 18 New Knoxville turnovers.

 

Ellie Gabel led New Knoxville with 12 points including two three point baskets, four of five free throws, six rebounds, and two assists.  Carsyn Henschen added 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Avery Henschen recorded five points, 11 rebounds, two assists, and three blocked shots.

 

Elizabeth Zimmerman led Cincinnati Country Day with nine points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, and three steals.  Sarah Zimmerman added eight points, three rebounds, two assists, and three blocked shots.  Jada Moorman recorded six points, five rebounds, and four steals.

Waterford trailed 23-17 at halftime but outscored New Washington Buckeye Central 21-7 in the third quarter on their way to a 53-39 victory.  There were five ties and two lead changes in the game.  Waterford shot 46.2% from the field including five of 12 from the three point line.  The Wildcats connected on 12 of 18 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 18 BKC turnovers.  BKC shot 46.7% from the field including five of 13 from beyond the arc.  They connected on six of eight free throws, pulled down 18 rebounds, and scored nine points off 11 Waterford turnovers.

 

Mackenzie Suprano led Waterford with 13 points including two three point baskets, six rebounds, and two assists.  Cara Taylor added 13 points including two three point baskets, seven of 10 free throws and six steals.  Avery Wagner recorded 12 points, nine rebounds, and three blocked shots.

 

Claludia Pifher led New Washington Buckeye Central with 16 points including two three point baskets, four of four free throws, and six rebounds.  Ryley Kantzer added seven points and three rebounds.  Emily Siesel recorded six points, four rebounds, three assists, and four steals.

Bullitt East utilized a dominating performance (27 points, 21 rebounds, 5 blocks) by Gracie Merkle to defeat Southwestern by the score of 66-42.  Bullitt East shot 45.8% from the field including one of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Chargers connected on 21 of 31 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 15 Southwestern turnovers.  Southwestern shot 26.3% from the field including six of 31 from beyond the arc.  The Warriors connected on six of 10 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 12 Bullitt East turnovers.  Bullitt East held a 38-8 advantage in points scored in the paint.

Cooper defeated Bowling Green 55-47 in a game in which both teams combined for 67 free throws and were whistled for 43 fouls.  Bowling Green lost three starters (LynKaylah James, Meadow Tisdale, and Tanaya Bailey).  Cooper shot 41.7% from the field including two of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Jaguars connected on 23 of 35 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 13 Bowling Green turnovers.  Bowling Green shot 38.2% from the field including one of nine from beyond the arc.  The Purples connected on 20 of 32 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 14 Cooper turnovers.

 

Liz Freihofer led Cooper with 20 points including 20 points including six of six from the field, eight of nine from the free throw line, four rebounds, and three assists.  Whitney Lind added 19 points including eight of 14 free throws, and seven rebounds.  Kay Freihofer recorded 11 points and five rebounds.

 

Tanaya Bailey led Bowling Green with 17 points including five of seven free throws.  LynKaylah James added 11 points and seven rebounds.  Meadow Tisdale recorded seven points, six rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots..  Saniyah Shelton added six points, nine rebounds, and two steals.

Meade County coach Dina Hackert started the following lineup: 5-8 So. Annabelle Babb, 5-5 Sr. Aubrey Hardesty, 5-10 Jr. Katie Durbin, 5-4 Jr. Mattie Clanton, and 5-9 Fr. Peyton Bradley.  Bullitt East coach Chris Stallings countered with 5-10 So.Anna Rodgers, 5-0 So. Jada Hughes, 6-6 Sr. Gracie Merkle, 5-8 Jr. Lilly Reid, and 5-8 Sr. Emma Egan.

 

Bullitt East outscored Meade County 20-9 in the first quarter on their way to a 62-47 victor over the Lady Waves.  Bullitt East shot 60% from the field including two of four from the three point line.  The Lady Chargers connected on 12 of 33 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored seven points off nine Meade County turnovers.  Meade County shot 34% from the field including seven of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Waves connected on eight of 10 free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and scored four points off eight Bullitt East turnovers.  Bullitt East held a 44-6 advantage in points in the paint.

 

Gracie Merkle led Bullitt East with 34 points, 11 rebounds, three blocked shots, and two steals.  Lilly Reid added 12 points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, and five assists.  Emma Egan recorded seven points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. 

 

Peyton Bradley led Meade County with 14 points including seven of eight free throws, two rebounds, and two assists.  5-10 Jr. Sage Crawley added 12 points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots.  Aubrey Hardesty recorded nine points, three rebounds, and three assists.

Franklin County coach Joey Thacker started the following lineup: 6-0 Jr. Jazmin Chambers, 5-10 Sr. Patience Laster, 6-4 Jr. Jhaven Meade, 5-5 Sr. Nevaeh Carter, and 5-7 Fr. Cameryn Ridderikhoff.  Southwestern coach Junior Molden countered with  5-11 Sr. Makayla Noritis, 5-10 Jr. Kaylee Young, 6-1 So. Payton Acey, 5-6 Fr. Kinsley Molden, and 5-7 Jr. Ayden Smiddy.

 

The score was tied 35-35 after three quarters but Southwestern pulled away in the final quarter for a 47-40 victory over Franklin County.  The win may have been costly for the Warriors as Makayla Noritis who had been having an excellent tournament went down with an ankle sprain in the closing seconds of the game.  The score was tied nine times and there were nine lead changes in this game.  Southwestern shot 35.3% from the field including six of 23 from the three point line.  The Warriors connected on five of eight free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 17 points on 10 Franklin County turnovers.  Franklin County shot 29.7% from the field including two of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Flyers connected on 16 of 21 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored two points off four Southwestern  turnovers.

 

Makayla Noritis led Southwestern with 17 points and eight rebounds.  Kinsley Molden added 14 points including three three point baskets, six rebounds, and three assists.  Payton Acey recorded eight points, four rebounds, and two assists. 

 

Patience Laster led Franklin County with 14 points including six of six free throws, and seven rebounds.  Jhaven Meade added nine points and four rebounds.  Jazmin Chambers recorded seven points on seven of 11 free throws, three rebounds, and two assists.  Nevaeh Carter chipped in with five points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Jenna Satterly, and 5-11 Sr. Amiya Jenkins.  Sacred Heart Academy coach Donna Moir countered with 6-0 Fr. ZaKiyah Johnson, 5-11 Sr. Josie Gilvin, 6-0 Sr. Alex Wolff, 5-7 Jr. Triniti Ralston, and 5-10 So. Reagan Bender.

 

Sacred Heart Academy led 20-19 at halftime and outscored Anderson County 19-8 in the third quarter on their way to a 48-38 victory.  There were two ties and six lead changes in this game.  Sacred Heart Academy shot 45% from the field including three of 13 from the three point line.  The Valkyries connected on nine of 13 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 23 Anderson County turnovers.  Anderson County shot 34.3% from the field including four of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Bearcats connected on 10 of 12 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored eight points off 13 Sacred Heart Academy turnovers.

 

ZaKiyah Johnson led Sacred Heart Academy with 16 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Reagan Bender added 13 points.  Josie Gilvin recorded eight points, three rebounds, five assists, and three steals.  Triniti Ralston chipped in with five points, four rebounds, and seven assists.

 

Paige Serafini led Anderson County with 18 points including two three point baskets, four of four free throws, and two rebounds.  Amiya Jenkins added 12 points including six of eight free throws, three rebounds, and three assists.  Lainey Johnson recorded six points, seven rebounds, two assists, and four steals.
