CAL dominated tonight in a 27-0 victory over Franklin County.  CAL recorded 14 first downs and 302 yards of total offense.  The Centurions were penalized twice for 18 yards and had two interceptions.  Franklin County recorded four first downs and 62 yards of total offense.  The Flyers were penalized three times for 20 yards, lost a fumble and had a pass intercepted.

Tanner Lopez led CAL’s ground game with 61 yards on eight carries.  Tanner Palin carried the ball five times for 26 yards.  A. Thompson added 25 yards on 11 carries.  Milton Wright carried the ball three times for 22 yards and two touchdowns.  Evan Boggs completed seven of eight passes for 50 yards with one interception.  Milton Wright completed five of six passes for 95 yards and a touchdown.  Austin Carr completed two of five passes for 23 yards with one interception.  Clay Davis caught six passes for 133 yards and a touchdown.  N. Olsofka led the defense with five solo tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling nine yards.  A. Palombino added four solo tackles.  Clay Davis recorded four solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in an eight yard loss and added an interception he returned for 29 yards.  Jake Paulson added two solo tackles for losses totaling 22 yards and a fumble recovery he returned 10 yards.

Jhanny Rodriguez led Franklin County’s ground game with 21 yards on two carries.  Denzell Vance carried the ball eight times for 16 yards.  Barrett Sanderson completed 10 of 12 passes for 32 yards with one interception.  Landon Hurst caught two passes for 11 yards.  Zack Janca led the defense with seven solo tackles with three of his losses resulting in losses totaling seven yards.  Jhanny Rodriguez added six solo tackles and intercepted a pass.

Powell County rallied from a 17-7 deficit in the second quarter to defeat Lexington Christian Academy by a score of 28-23.  Powell County recorded 14 first downs and 394 yards of total offense.  They were penalized four times for 30 yards.  Lexington Christian Academy recorded 21 first downs and 450 yards of total offense.  The Eagles were penalized six times for 40 yards and had two interceptions.

Lane Rogers led Powell County’s ground game with 184 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.  Isaac Harrison carried the ball 24 times for 95 yards and two touchdowns.  Jon Brooks completed five of eight passes for 65 yards.  Nate Skidmore completed his only pass for 65 yards.  Lane Rogers caught three passes for 100 yards.  Nathan Brooks led the defense with six solo and six assisted tackles.  Nate Skidmore added five solo and eight assisted tackles.  Ryan Carmichael recorded four solo and 10 assisted tackles.  Elijah Oertli and Isaac Harrison each intercepted a pass.

Dillon Wheatley led Lexington Christian Academy’s ground game with 162 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries.  Brayden Miller completed 22 of 37 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.  Ryan Stucky caught 11 passes for 111 yards.  Caelan Lebryk added three receptions for 54 yards.  Drayden Burton recorded five receptions for 45 yards and two touchdowns.  Kyle Paske added two receptions for 45 yards.  Clay Elliot and Wade Drake led the defense with four solo and seven assisted tackles each.  Brett Wilkins recorded one solo and 10 assisted tackles.

A combination of missing starters due to injuries and five turnovers proved to be too much for Collins to overcome in a 36-7 loss to Anderson County.  Collins turned over the ball in their first two possessions which led to two quick scores and the Bearcats led 14-0 with 10:17 left in the first quarter.  Anderson County recorded 14 first downs and 295 yards of total offense.  The Bearcats were penalized four times for 30 yards and lost a fumble.  Collins recorded six first downs and 99 yards of total offense.  They were penalized three times for 15 yards, lost three fumbles and had two passes intercepted.

Tyler Peters led Anderson County’s ground game with 104 yards and a touchdown on seven carries.  Gunner Gillis carried the ball 10 times for 81 yards and two touchdowns.  Brydon Labhart added 31 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.  Gunner Gillis completed seven of 11 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown.  JP Garmon caught five passes for 36 yards.  Tyler Peters added one reception for 24 yards and a touchdown.  Bryce Edmondson led the defense with five solo and one assisted tackles with 2.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling three yards.  Andrew Chilton added four solo and two assisted tackles.  Brydon Labhart recorded four solo and one assisted tackles and Ian Chilton added four solo tackles.  JD Crawford and JP Garmon intercepted on pass each and Tyler Green, Gunner Lee, and Caleb Boyles each recovered a fumble.

JR Lucas led Collins’ ground game with 46 yards on 11 carries.  JR Lucas completed 14 of 22 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions.  Payton Hawk caught five passes for 20 yards.  Dylan Siler added three receptions for 23 yards and a touchdown.  Quinten Murphy led the defense with four solo and one assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a 5 yard loss.  Zachary Smith and Sicari Toole each recorded three solo and two assisted tackles and Toole recovered a fumble.  Miles McGibben added two solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a 16 yard loss.

Boyle County defeated Paul Laurence Dunbar by a score of 21-14.  Boyle County recorded 11 first downs and 290 yards of total offense.  The Rebels were penalized 10 times for 130 yards and had three passes intercepted.  Dunbar recorded 14 first downs and 223 yards of total offense.  The Bulldogs were penalized eight times for 75 yards and lost two fumbles.

Cory Swanner led Boyle County’s ground game with 97 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.  Josiah Robbins carried the ball twice for 21 yards.  Josiah Robbins completed 13 of 25 passes for 170 yards and one touchdown with three interceptions.  Eric Brown caught five passes for 56 yards.  Mack Cox added four receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown.  Nick Roney led the defense with eight solo and two assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 11 yards and recovered a fumble.  Austin Bodner added five solo and five assisted tackles.  Eric Brown recorded five solo and two assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 14 yards.

LaDarius Morton led Dunbar’s ground game with 96 yards on 11 carries.  Jefferson Harkless carried the ball 27 times for 90 yards and a touchdown.  DeRante Sanders added 20 yards and a touchdown on five carries.  Kendall Roberts completed one of nine passes for four yards.  Dontell Brown caught one pass for four yards.  DeRante Sanders led the defense with seven solo and five assisted tackles.  Carter Hayslett added five solo and three assisted tackles and intercepted a pass.  Tyron Harris recorded two solo and four assisted tackles with 1.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling nine yards.  Maurice Carter and Braxton Edge also recorded interceptions.

Southwestern defeated Southwestern by a score of 43-14.  Lexington Catholic recorded 12 first downs and 363 yards of total offense.  The Knights were penalized seven times for 61 yards and had a pass intercepted.  Southwestern recorded 16 first downs and 275 yards of total offense.  The Warriors were penalized five times for 55 yards, lost three fumbles and had a pass intercepted.

Andy Thompson led Lexington Catholic’s ground game with 138 yards and two touchdowns on four carries.  Jaylen Jones carried the ball seven times for 91 yards and a touchdown.  Kirk Fagot completed seven of 12 passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  JJ Ogbogu caught four passes for 53 yards and a touchdown.  Donovan Morris added three receptions for 38 yards.  Chris Thompson caught a 28 yard touchdown pass.  A. Lauterbach led the defense with seven solo and three assisted tackles.  Jack Fagot added seven solo and two assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling five yards and recovered two fumbles.  Zack Newcomb and Andy Hickey each recorded five solo tackles.  Eli Mitchell scored on a 42 yard interception return.

Chandler Gover led Southwestern’s ground game with 104 yards on 16 carries.  William Lemmon carried the ball 12 times for 44 yards and a touchdown.  Floyd Fannin carried the ball four times for 41 yards.  Brandon Pruitt completed five of 12 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown with one interception.  Treavor Brock caught one pass for 44 yards.  Bobby Allen caught one pass for 18 yards and a touchdown.  Chandler Gover led the defense with three solo and one assisted tackles.  William Lemmon added three solo tackles.

Henry Clay’s Joquise Buford scored on a 27 yard interception return and Tyven McWhorter scored on a 100 yard interception return to spark Henry Clay to a 49-28 victory over Campbell County.  Henry Clay recorded 18 first downs and 398 yards of total offense.  The Blue Devils were penalized eight times for 49 yards and lost a fumble.  Campbell County recorded 19 first downs and 340 yards of total offense.  They were penalized twice for 56 yards and had three passes intercepted.

Joquise Buford led Henry Clay’s ground game with 117 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.  Davonte Robinson carried the ball four times for 82 yards and a touchdown.  Austin Bledsoe carried the ball four times for 16 yards and two touchdowns.  CJ Tackett completed five of nine passes for 45 yards.  Marcus Tyler completed six of six passes for 52 yards.  Bry Berezowitz caught four passes for 61 yards.  Austin Bledsoe added two receptions for 17 yards.  Davonte Robinson led the defense with 10 solo and three assisted tackles.  R. Irving added four solo and five assisted tackles.  Ramond Jackson intercepted a pass that he returned for 61 yards. 

C. Plessinger led Campbell County’s ground game with 92 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.  Alex Dowds carried the ball 22 times for 69 yards and a touchdown.  C. Plessinger completed eight of 18 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions.  Noc Mayer caught three passes for 95 yards.  Andrew Crowder added three receptions for 52 yards.  Eric Dean recorded two receptions for 32 yards and a touchdown.  Hunter Gasdorf returned four kickoffs for 135 yards with a long return of 55 yards.  C. Madison Central outscored Madison Southern 10-0 in the final quarter on their way to a 27-21 victory.  Madison Central recorded 13 first downs and 257 yards of total offense.  The Indians were penalized four times for 35 yards.  Madison Southern recorded 13 first downs and 273 yards of total offense.  The Eagles were penalized nine times for 75 yards and lost two fumbles.

Korrion Crier led Madison Central’s ground game with 84 yards and a touchdown on five carries.  Johan Williams carried the ball 21 times for 59 yards.  Jabari Huguely added 34 yards on nine carries.  Zach Hardin completed six of eight passes for 71 yards and a touchdown.  John Williams caught two passes for 30 yards.  Lawrence Lee Jr. caught two passes for 18 yards.  Evin Harris caught a 14 yard touchdown pass.  KJ Long led the defense with seven solo and eight assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling five yards, forced two fumbles, and recovered a fumble.  Korrion Crier and Kenton Edwards each recorded four solo and five assisted tackles.

Payton Skidmore led Madison Southern’s ground game with 59 yards on nine carries.  AJ Richardson carried the ball seven times for 54 yards.  Carter Smith added 38 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.  Landon Stacy carried the ball 10 times for 32 yards and a touchdown.  Aaron Slone completed eight of 14 passes for 91 yards.  Payton Skidmore caught three passes for 34 yards.  AJ Richardson added two receptions for 25 yards.  Payton Skidmore returned three kickoffs for 123 yards with a long return of 85 yards.  David Williams led the defense with four solo and seven assisted tackles.  Carter Smith added five solo and five assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling six yards.  Nathaniel Eads recorded three solo and five assisted tackles.

Ashland star RB Quinton Baker went out early with an ankle sprain and Tates Creek pulled away in the second half for a 41-22 victory.  Tates Creek recorded 20 first downs and 404 yards of total offense.  The Commodores were penalized five times for 62 yards and lost two fumbles.  Ashland recorded 25 first downs and 435 yards of total offense.  They were penalized seven times for 56 yards and lost two fumbles.

Jaren Shelby led Tates Creek’s ground game with 87 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.  Darryl Bell carried the ball four times for 43 yards.  Peyton Burke completed 22 of 31 passes for 244 yards and four touchdowns.  Robbie Lofton caught six passes for 21 yards and two touchdowns.  Jaren Shelby added five receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown.  Jackson Beerman caught four passes for 37 yards and a touchdown.  Drew Ransdell added four receptions for 36 yards.  Turner Gentry caught three passes for 58 yards.  Jerrod Martin led the defense with 10 solo and two assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 14 yards.  Sakima Opsal added three solo and seven assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a five yard loss.  Darryl Bell recorded five solo and two assisted tackles.  Teonte White scored on an 82 yard fumble recovery.

Kurtlen Brown led Ashland’s ground attack with 211 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries.  Noah Roberts carried the ball 13 times for 77 yards.  Quinton Baker recorded 50 yards on five carries.  Braxton Ratliff completed two of four passes for 73 yards and one touchdown.  R. Khoulavong caught a 51 yard touchdown pass.  Dylan Blevins led the defense with six solo and one assisted tackles.  Josh Bradley also recorded six solo and one assisted tackles.  Drew O’Bryan added four solo and two assisted tackles.

Scott County defeated Covington Catholic by a score of 56-35.  Scott County recorded 23 first downs and 468 yards of total offense.  The Cardinals were penalized 11 times for 113 yards, lost two fumbles and had a pass intercepted.  Covington Catholic recorded 16 first downs and 331 yards of total offense.  The Colonels were penalized four times for 24 yards, lost a fumble and had two passes intercepted.

Noah Hughes led Scott County’s ground game with 136 yards on 18 carries.  Kendrick Hamilton carried the ball nine times for 123 yards and three touchdowns.  Simon Bond added 65 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.  Josh Davis completed four of six passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  Jordan Darnell caught two passes for 64 yards and a touchdown.  Glenn Covington added two receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown.  Dylan Smith scored on a 97 yard kickoff return.   Keeshon Brent led the defense with six solo and one assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling six yards.  Tyler Braxton added five solo and one assisted tackles.  Eric Abney recorded five solo tackles and recorded a fumble.

AJ Mayer led Covington Catholic’s ground game with 52 yards on 15 carries.  Anthony Best carried the ball eight times for 32 yards.  AJ Mayer completed 17 of 36 passes for 252 yards and five touchdowns with one interception.  Cam Pitzer caught five passes for 41 yards and three touchdowns.  Ryan McGinness added four receptions for 155 yards and two touchdowns.  Alex Shelton led the defense with six solo and seven assisted tackles.  Cam Pitzer added six solo and four assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 11 yards.  Jacob Steins recorded four solo and four assisted tackles and recovered a fumble he returned 14 yards.

There were thirty four teams entered in this tournament: Eastside, Dorton, Meyzeek, McCreary County, Northern Pulaski, Lebanon, Mt. Washington, Wolfe County, Southern Pulaski, Bernheim, Conway, Sebastian, Meece, Pikeville, Olmstead, Morgan County, Elkhorn, Owensboro Catholic, St. Charles, Madison Middle, JCTMS, Conner, West Carter, Campbell, Valley, Lincoln County, Johnson Traditional, Bourbon County, Old KY Home, Danville Bate, Clay County. Casey County, Woodford County, and Ashland.

 

I will give a brief recap of the Round of 16 tourney bracket played on Saturday and the Silver Bracket Finals and the Championship Bracket Finals played on Sunday.

 

Saturday  October 24th (Round of 16 Tournament Play

 

Eastside 51  Lincoln County 28 – Emily Ezell and Catie Bacon led Eastside with 18 and nine points respectively.  Libby Renner led Lincoln County with nine points on three three point baskets.

 

Ashland 41  West Carter 31 Julia Parker led Ashland with 23 points.  West Carter was paced by Becca Nolen, Kallee Burchett, and Sara Oppenheimer with 11, nine, and nine points respectively.

 

Conner 30  Meece 29Macey Burcham led Conner with 12 points.  Meece was led by Addy Bowling with 12 points.

 

Casey County 60  Mt. Washington 44Gena Cravens, Lauren Lee, and Natalie Duggins led Casey County with 17, 15, and 11 points respectively.  Mt. Washington was led by Lexi Taylor with 21 points.

 

Northern Pulaski 51  Pikeville 22 – Jordan Stephens led Northern Pulaski with 12 points.  Jenna Wood added 11 points including three three point baskets and Mady Dunn chipped in with nine points.  Pikeville was led by A. Gearheart with 15 points.

 

Valley 48  Dorton 38Taylor Newsom, Katelyn Adkins, and Cassidy Rowe led Valley with 13, 10, and 10 points respectively.  Jaden Edmonds led Dorton with 19 points.

 

Southern Pulaski 38  Olmstead 28Kennedy Harris and Regi Cundiff led Southern Pulaski with 21 and nine points respectively.  Paige VanZant led Olmstead with seven points.

 

 

JCTMS 44  Lebanon 33Alana Striverson, Shalia Mozee, and Erin Toller led the victors with 12, 11, and 10 points respectively.

 

Sunday October 25th

 

Silver Bracket

 

West Carter 29  Lincoln County 24 (Quarterfinal)Becca Nolen led West Carter with 16 points.  Trinity Shearer led Lincoln County with nine points.

 

Mt. Washington 37  Meece 31 (Quarterfinal)Caroline Scott and Lexi Taylor led Mt. Washington with 14 and 12 points respectively.  Addy Bowling led Meece with 14 points.

 

Dorton 48  Pikeville 37 (Quarterfinal)Tori Hampton, Jaden Edmonds, and Katelyn Bartley led Dorton with 11, 10, and 10 points respectively.  Pikeville was led by A. Gearheart with 17 points.

 

Olmstead won Lebanon forfeit (Quarterfinal)

 

Mt. Washington 51  West Carter 42 (Semifinal) Lexi Taylor led Mt. Washington with 22 points including three three point baskets.  Kennedy Griffin added 11 points including three three point baskets.  Caroline Scott chipped in with 10 points.  Kara Back and Becca Nolen led West Carter with 11 and 10 points respectively. 

 

Dorton 48  Olmstead 25 (Semifinal)Tori Hampton and Alyssa Newsom led Dorton with 16 and 13 points respectively.  Paige VanZant and Brea Croslin led Olmstead with six points each.

 

Mt. Washington 56  Dorton 55 (Championship)Lexi Taylor scored off a rebound and hit a free throw to give Mt. Washington a 56-55 lead and Dorton missed two late free throws to end the game.  Lexi Taylor led the victors with 21 points.  Hayley Ranalli and Caroline Scott each scored 10 points.  Alyssa Newsom led Dorton with 20 points.  Jaden Edmonds and Kelsey Tackett added 13 and 11 points respectively.

 

Championship Bracket

 

Eastside 31  Ashland 20 (Quarterfinal) – Emily Ezell led Eastside with 15 points.  Julia Parker and Savannah Cade led Ashland with seven and six points respectively.

 

Casey County 56  Conner 40 (Quarterfinal)Gena Cravens led Casey County with 19 points.  Mackenzie Cundiff, Lauren Lee, and Natalie Duggins added 10, nine, and nine points respectively.  Madison Drummonds and Emily Zurich led Conner with 12 and 11 points respectively.

 

Northern Pulaski 40  Valley 32 (Quarterfinal)Jenna Wood led Northern Pulaski with 19 points including five three point baskets.  Shelby Cothron added nine points.  Cassidy Rowe led Valley with 15 points.

 

Southern Pulaski 50  JCTMS 30 (Quarterfinal)Kennedy Harris, Alexa Smiddy, and Regi Cundiff led Southern Pulaski with 21, 13, and 12 points respectively.  Erin Toller led JCTMS with 13 points.

 

Northern Pulaski 41  Southern Pulaski 40 (Semifinal) – This game was an instant classic between two fierce inter county rivals with an unbelievable finish.  Northern Pulaski got a steal in the closing seconds by Haley Brock under the basket and she missed the shot but Kaylee Ridner rebounded and scored in the final second.  Jenna Wood led Northern Pulaski with 15 points including three three point baskets.  Shelby Cothron added 11 points.  Regi Cundiff, Kennedy Harris, and Alexa Smiddy led Southern Pulaski with 15, 11, and nine points respectively.

 

Casey County 56  Eastside 34 (Semifinal)Gena Cravens, Lauren Lee, and Shayla Wilkey led Casey County with 14, 11, and 11 points respectively.  Catie Bacon led Eastside with 11 points.

 

Northern Pulaski 41  Casey County 36 (Championship) – Northern Pulaski raced out to a 25-9 halftime lead and survived a furious rally by Casey County to earn the victory and championship.  Jenna Wood led the victors with 17 points including 12 free throws and was named Tournament MVP.  Jordan Stephens and Shelby Cothron added 11 and 10 points respectively.  Natalie Duggins, Mackenzie Cundiff, and Shayla Wilkey led Casey County with 11, 8, and 7 points respectively.

 

This is just a brief recap of this tourney and I will have a complete write up of this event on my website at a later date.  This was a very well run event with quality teams and players.  The statistics mentioned here were hurriedly copied from the KBA stat sheets and I apologize in advance for any errors on my transcribing or any misspelled names.  A special thanks to the KBA staff for the hospitality extended me today.
