Ashland managed to keep the vaunted Belfry ground game under control enough to earn a 10-3 victory over the Pirates.  Ashland held a 10-0 lead mid way through the final quarter and had possession of the ball.  Belfry recovered the fumble and set up shop at the Ashland 12 yard line.  The Tomcats held and Belfry had to settle for a field goal.  Belfry held Ashland and the Ashland punter Calyx Holmes rocketed a punt of 50 plus yards to the Belfry five yard line with approximately two minutes left in the game.  This is one of the Achilles heel of a ground-and-pound team and with Belfry out of timeouts.  Ashlands’s emphasis was not to give up the big play and keep Belfry from getting out of bounds.  Jack Alley ended all Belfry’s hopes with an interception on the Ashland side of the 50 yard line and the Tomcats were able to run out the clock to ensure a hard fought victory  Ashland recorded 10 first downs and 176 yards.  The Tomcats were penalized twice for 25 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.  Belfry recorded nine first downs and 149 yards of total yardage.  The Pirates were penalized six times for 50 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.

Keontae Pittman led Ashland’s ground game with 78 yards on 12 carries.  JT Garrett carried the ball seven times for 37 yards and a touchdown.  Brett Mullins recorded 21 yards on seven carries.  Brett Mullins completed two of four passes for four yards with one interception.  JT Garrett caught two passes for four yards.  Caleb Tackett led the defense with five solo and seven assisted tackles and also recovered a fumble.  Hunter Gillum added seven solo and three assisted tackles.  Eric Billups recorded six solo and one assisted tackles.  Jack Alley intercepted a pass.

Isaac Dixon led Belfry’s ground game with 75 yards on 21 carries.  Brett Coleman carried the ball 17 times for 66 yards.  Brett Coleman completed two of four passes for two yards with one interception.  Isaac Dixon caught one pass for five yards.
