Lexington Catholic raced out to a 13-2 lead but had to battle down to the wire to earn a 49-43 decision over Tates Creek.  Tates Creek tied the game 34-34 early in the final quarter on a long three point bomb by Peyton Hisel.  Lexington Catholic recaptured the lead and held on for the victory.

Lexington Catholic shot 42.5% from the field including three of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Knights connected on 12 of 17 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 12 Tates Creek turnovers.  Tates Creek shot 28.8% from the field including six of 23 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Commodores connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 24 Tates Creek turnovers.

Octavia Wilson led Lexington Catholic with 21 points including two three point baskets.  Alex Botkin added 13 points and 11 rebounds.  5-9 8^th grader Rachel Blake pulled down nine rebounds.

Scott Schuette led Lexington Catholic with 20 points and six rebounds.  Taylor Martin added 19 points, 11 rebounds, and six steals.  Seth Beckham chipped in with 10 points.

Lexington Christian Academy (17-10)  vs.  Lafayette (16-13) (Girls)

Lexington Christian Academy coach Jason Seamands started the following lineup: 6-1 Jr. Kristen Jacob, 5-8 Fr. Katelin Bundy, 5-11 Sr. Kelli Rinehart, 5-4 Jr. Kelli Mitchuson, and 5-5 Sr. Rachel Cox.  Lafayette coach Allison Tate Denton countered with 5-9 Jr. Taylor Mynear, 5-7 Jr. Emily Justice, 6-2 Sr. Shomari Kendrick, 5-5 Jr. Sarah Martin, and 5-2 Sr. Jariana Gillespie.

Lafayette pulled away in the final minute to defeat LCA by a score of 43-34.  Lafayette led 20-14 at halftime in a game that was slowed at times as LCA held the ball in an attempt to pull Lafayette out of their zone defense.  LCA rallied and took a 34-29 lead in the final period.  Lafayette’s Sarah Martin displayed all the coolness of a “Riverboat Gambler” as she drilled a long three point bomb to knot the score at 34-34 with 2:12 left in the game.  Martin struck again with another three pointer to give the Lady Generals a 37-34 lead with 57 seconds left on the clock.  Jariana Gillespie then hit six free throws in a row to close out the scoring.

Lafayette shot 37.5% from the field including five of 15 from the three point line.  The Lady Generals connected on 14 of 19 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 13 LCA turnovers.  LCA shot 42.1% from the field including one of seven from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on one of two free throws, pulled down 15 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 17 Lafayette turnovers.

Sarah Martin led Lafayette with 12 points on four three point baskets.  Jariana Gillespie added nine points and five steals.  Shomari Kendrick chipped in with eight points, eight rebounds, and four blocked shots.  5-10 Fr. Sarah Cooley had a productive night off the bench as she contributed five points and six rebounds down the stretch.

Kelli Rinehart led LCA with 13 points. Kristen Jacob added eight points.

Lexington Christian Academy led 31-29 after three quarters behind the deadly long range shooting of Taylor Barnette but Tates Creek stormed back in the final quarter to earn a 50-37 victory.  Tates Creek shot 37.8% from the field including three of 13 from the three point line.  The Commodores connected on 19 of 22 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 11 LCA turnovers.  LCA shot 35.9% from the field including seven of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on two of three free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and scored 11 points off eight Tates Creek turnovers.

Marcellus Barksdale led Tates Creek with 19 points and 15 rebounds.  Ryan Fucci added 12 points and six assists.  Todd Bradley chipped in with eight points and six rebounds.

Tates Creek defeated Paul Dunbar by a score of 54-48.  Tates Creek raced out to a 31-11 halftime lead as Dunbar only shot 14.3% from the field (4 of 28) in the first half.  Dunbar mounted a furious rally in the second half and trailed 42-31 after three quarters.  The Lady Bulldogs cut the margin to four; 52-48 with 1:12 left in the game but could not close the margin.  Dunbar connected on six three point baskets in the second half.

Tates Creek shot 46.3% from the field including four of 10 from the three point line.  The Lady Commodores connected on 12 of 19 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 12 points off nine Dunbar turnovers.  Dunbar shot 28.1% from the field including seven of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Bulldogs connected on five of 11 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 23 Tates Creek turnovers.

Wayne County coach Rodney Woods started the following lineup: 6-4 Sr. Austin Shearer, 6-0 So. Dagan Shelton, 6-4 Sr. Gavin Dunagan, 6-0 Sr. Kyle Hopper, and 6-1 Sr. Ryan Hopper.  Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman countered with 6-5 Sr. Taylor Martin, 6-4 Sr. Scott Schuette, 6-4 Sr. Hunter Porter, 5-10 Jr. Bryan Woomer, and 6-0 Sr. Seth Beckham.  Note:  Former Lexington Catholic basketball coach Danny Haney was honored tonight as the basketball court was named in his honor.  The gymnasium was packed tonight with his friends and former players.

Lexington Catholic defeated Wayne County tonight by a score of 64-56.  The score was tied 30-30 at halftime as Lexington Catholic was hampered by early foul woes to Taylor Martin as he was limited to approximately five minutes in the first half.  Martin scored 17 points in the second half to lead the Knights to victory over a very tough Wayne County squad.

Lexington Catholic shot 44.1% from the field including three of 17 from the three point line.  The Knights connected on nine of 14 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 24 Wayne County turnovers.  Wayne County shot 42.9% from the field including four of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Cardinals connected on 16 of 22 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored eight points off seven Lexington Catholic turnovers.

Taylor Martin led Lexington Catholic with 23 points and five rebounds.  Scott Schuette added 12 points and five steals.  Seth Beckham chipped in with 10 points and six assists.

Gavin Dunagan led Wayne County with 22 points and 16 rebounds.  Austin Shearer added 16 points.

Hallie Gillespie, 5-10 Jr. TaShea Pyles, 5-8 Jr. Samantha Sexton, 5-7 Jr. Kourtney Criswell, and 5-4 Sr. Kayla Bowlin.  Lexington Catholic coach Chelsea Chowning countered with 6-0 Jr. Alex Botkin. 5-10 Jr. Emily Johns, 6-0 Jr. Elizabeth Walton, 5-7 Jr. Bonnie Rhule, and 5-8 So. Octavia Wilson.  Note: Soph. Octavia Wilson was honored tonight for scoring her 1,000^th career point in an earlier game against Covington Holy Cross.

Lexington Catholic led 32-31 at halftime and earned a hard fought 73-60 victory over Wayne County.  Lexington Catholic shot 42.6% from the field including five of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Knights connected on 22 of 25 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 14 Wayne county turnovers.  Wayne County shot 43.1% from the field including seven of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cardinals connected on nine of 13 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 15 Lexington Catholic turnovers.

Alex Botkin led Lexington Catholic with 17 points including nine of 10 from the free throw line, pulled down 13 rebounds, and dished out six assists.  Octavia Wilson also scored 17 points, dished out four assists, and recorded three steals.  Emily Johns recorded 16 points, five rebounds, and three steals.

TaShea Pyles led Wayne County with 17 points including five three point baskets.  Hallie Gillespie also recorded 17 points.  Kayla Bowlin recorded 16 points, six assists, and three steals.

Note: Lafayette center 6-2 Sr. Shomari Kendrick did not play tonight.  Western Hills coach Jody Hellard countered with 5-8 Jr. Kaylah Roberts, 5-7 Sr. Meagan Walker, 6-0 Sr. Kendyl Vandergriff, 5-5 Jr. Elizabeth Owens, and 5-4 Fr. Stephanie Sparkman.

Lafayette defeated Western Hills by a score of 45-41.  Lafayette shot 38.1% from the field including five of 16 from the three point line.  The Lady Generals connected on eight of 16 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 13 Western Hills turnovers.  Western Hills shot 41.5% from the field including three of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Wolverines connected on only four of 13 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored nine points off 10 Lafayette turnovers.

Sarah Martin led Lafayette with 17 points including five three point baskets.  Mackenzie Graham added 14 points.  Jariana Gillespie recorded seven points, five rebounds, nine assists, and three steals.

Meagan Walker led Western Hills with 17 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Kendyl Vandergriff added 15 points and nine rebounds.
