Male coach Tim Haworth started the following lineup: 6-4 So. Jordan Mitchell, 6-4 Sr. Jaymes Clark, 6-10 So. Trey Hillerich, 5-10 Sr. Cornelius Barnett, and 6-1 Sr. Keefe Braziel. Frederick Douglass coach Murray Garvin countered with 6-4 Sr. DeMarcus Surratt, 6-3 Sr. Thurman Wade, 6-8 Sr. Nate Coen, 5-11 Sr. Daniel Mpiana, and 6-4 Sr. Tate Robinson.
Male led 50-39 in the third quarter and withstood surges by Frederick Douglass to earn a 62-59 victory. There were nine lead changes and seven ties in this game. Male shot 51.9% from the field including four of 13 from the three point line. The Bulldogs connected on four of 12 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored five points off eight Frederick Douglass turnovers. Frederick Douglass shot 34.9% from the field including four of 17 from beyond the arc. The Broncos connected on 11 of 21 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored eight points off 11 Male turnovers.
Jordan Mitchell led Male with 27 points including two three point baskets, 10 rebounds, and two blocked shots. Jaymes Clark added 16 points including two three point baskets, and two rebounds. Trey Hillerich recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds. Keefe Braziel chipped in with five points and seven rebounds.
DeMarcus Surratt led Fredrick Douglass with 27 points including three three point baskets, four of four free throws, seven rebounds, and two steals. 5-10 Jr. Dakari Talbert added 11 points and four rebounds. Thurman Wade recorded eight points and eight rebounds. Nate Coen chipped in with six points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
