Lexington Catholic (31-4) vs. DuPont Manual (28-6) (Championship)
Lexington Catholic coach Greg Todd started the following lineup: 6-0 So. Chelsea Chowning, 5-8 Sr. Tyler Bell, 5-11 Sr. Katie Michalczyk, 5-10 So. Sarah Schell, and 5-10 Sr. Katie Mendenhall. DuPont Manual coach Mina Todd countered with 5-11 Sr. Chelsey Thompson, 6-0 Sr. Liz Plass, 6-3 Sr. Chandra Brown, 6-1 Fr. Sara McKemie, and 5-8 Sr. Morissa Benberry.
Sarah Schell scored a putback on a missed shot from six feet out with four tenths of a second remaining in the game to give Lexington Catholic a 36-34 victory over Manual and the State Championship. Lexington Catholic trailed 22-8 in the second period but fought back to take a 27-26 lead at the end of the third quarter. Manual sustained a tough break during this time as Chelsey Thompson left the game with a severely sprained ankle and was unable to return to the game.
Lexington Catholic took a 30-29 lead midway through the final period and spread the floor to utilize the clock. Liz Plass tied the game 34-34 on three free throw shots with one minute remaining in the game setting the stage for Schell’s last second heroics. Lexington Catholic was led by tournament MVP Chelsea Chowning and Sarah Schell with 16 and 11 points respectively. Manual was led tonight by Liz Plass with 18 points and five rebounds. Chelsey Thompson added 10 points before she had to leave the game. Chandra Brown only scored two points but she pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.
