Eastern Kentucky coach Jeff Neubauer started the following lineup: 6-7 Sr. Timmy Knipp, 6-7 Jr. Ja’Mill Powell, 6-8 Sr. Deverin Muff, 6-1 Fr. Paul Jackson, and 6-2 Sr. Corey Walden. Murray State coach Steve Prohm countered with 6-8 Sr. Jarvis Williams, 6-4 Jr. Jeffery Moss, 6-7 Sr. Jonathan Fairell, 6-2 So. Cameron Payne, and 6-3 Sr. TJ Sapp.
Murray State trailed five points with 1:46 left in the game but the Racers rallied to force overtime and took control in overtime to defeat Eastern Kentucky by a score of 85-78. This was a game of runs as the score was tied six times and there were three lead changes in the game. Each team led by as many as eight points in the first half and Eastern actually led 62-54 with 5:49 remaining on the clock in regulation.
Murray State shot 53.7% from the field including seven of 17 from the three point line. The Racers connected on 20 of 26 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 10 Eastern Kentucky turnovers. Eastern Kentucky shot 41.7% from the field including 13 of 35 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 15 of 19 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 16 Murray State turnovers.
Cameron Payne led Murray State with 21 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and six steals. Jarvis Williams added 17 points and 11 rebounds. TJ Sapp chipped in with 14 points, five rebounds, and seven assists. Jeffery Moss added 13 points. 6-3 So. Justin Seymour also reached double figures with 11 points including three three point baskets.
Corey Walden led Eastern Kentucky with 26 points including three three point baskets, four rebounds, three assists, and five steals. Ja’Mill Powell added 22 points including four three point baskets, four rebounds, and three assists. 6-8 Sr. Eric Stutz recorded 16 points and five rebounds. Timmy Knipp scored 12 points on four three point baskets. 6-2 So. Isaac McGlone dished out six assists.
