St. John’s coach Sean McAloor started the following lineup: 6-5 J. Kylia Sykes, 6-3 Sr. Kris Saulny, 6-6 Sr. Matas Budrys, 5-11 Jr. Anthony Cowan Jr., and 6-1 Jr. Jeffrey Dowtin. Taylor County coach Richard Gatewood countered with 6-4 Sr. Brandon Berry, 6-4 Jr. Qurntin Goodin, 6-3 Sr. Austin Webster, 5-11 So. David Sloan, and 6-0 So. Ezra Oliver.
St. John’s connected on three free throws in the last three seconds to earn a 59-56 victory over Taylor County. Taylor County led 48-46 after three quarters but St. John’s rallied for the victory. There were 12 lead changes and six ties in this game. St. John’s shot 43.2% from the field including six of 18 from the three point line. The Cadets connected on 15 of 20 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 14 Taylor County turnovers. Taylor County shot 42.9% from the field including three of 15 from beyond the arc. The Cardinals connected on 11 of 15 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 14 St. John’s turnovers.
Anthony Cowan Jr. led St. John’s with 18 points including seven of eight free throws and four rebounds. Jeffrey Dowtin added 12 points and eight rebounds. 5-11 Fr. Tre Wood chipped in with nine points.
Brandon Berry led Taylor County with 25 points including three three point baskets and 11 rebounds. Quentin Goodin added 16 points and seven rebounds. David Sloan chipped in with eight points.
St. John’s (59) – Sykes 5, Saulny 2, Budrys 7, Cowan Jr. 18, Dowtin 12, Woods 9, Hylton 6.
Taylor County (56) – Berry 25, Goodin 16, Webster 4, Sloan 8, Oliver 3.
