Franklin County  vs.  Lafayette (Girls) (Semifinal)

11th Region Tournament

Franklin County coach Joey Thacker started the following lineup: 5-8 Sr. Angela Wickman, 5-5 Sr. Raven Timmons, 5-9 Fr. Malaka Frank, 5-4 Jr. Nannilena White, and 5-8 Fr. Dasia Kilbourne.  Lafayette coach Allison Denton countered with 6-0 Jr. Sarah Cooley, 5-11 So. Dee Givens, 6-4 So. Ashanti Thomas, 5-6 Jr. Megumi Nagahiro, and 5-6 Jr. Ken’yale Demus.

Lafayette defeated Franklin County by a score of 66-55 in a game marred by a constant parade to the free throw line.  Franklin County committed 24 fouls and Lafayette was whistled for 22 fouls.  Lafayette shot 43.2% from the field including three of 14 from the three point line.  The Lady Generals connected on 25 of 33 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 20 Franklin County turnovers.  Franklin County shot 30.9% from the field including one of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Flyers connected on 20 of 31 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 31 Lafayette turnovers.

Dee Givens led Lafayette with 24 points including two three point baskets, seven rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  Ashanti Thomas added 12 points, six rebounds, and five blocked shots.  5-9 8th grade Kiara Pankins chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.  Sarah Cooley recorded seven points and nine rebounds.

Dasia Kilbourne led Franklin County with 13 points including nine of 12 free throws.  Raven Timmons added 11 points and 11 rebounds.  5-8 8th grade Rebecca Cook recorded 11 points, five rebounds, and three steals.  Malaka Frank chipped in with nine points, five rebounds, and five steals.

Lafayette           12  15  10  29 – 66
