Sacred Heart Academy coach Donna Moir started the following lineup: 5-7 Sr. Kristin Matula, 5-6 Jr. Raven Merriweather, 5-9 Jr. Dai Jia Ruffin, 5-3 So. Ashley Johnson, and 5-3 So. Gretchen Samsel. Ballard coach Frank Wright countered with 5-10 Jr. Jovanna Layfield, 6-0 Sr. Maddie Martin, 6-4 Sr. Tearra Banks, 5-5 So. Alex Martin, and 5-7 Jr. Aundrea Matchen.
Raven Merriweather hit an eight foot jumper with 3.1 seconds left on the clock to give Sacred Heart a 55-53 victory over Ballard. Sacred Heart raced out to a 22-6 lead after the first quarter but Ballard rallied to only trail 31-28 at halftime. Sacred Heart shot 39.6% from the field including zero of nine from the three point line. The Valkyries connected on 17 of 23 free throws, pulled down 17 rebounds, and scored 25 points off 29 Ballard turnovers. Ballard shot 40% from the field including one of three from beyond the arc. The Lady Bruins connected on 12 of 12 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 11 Sacred Heart turnovers.
Dai Jia Ruffin led Sacred Heart with 21 points and five rebounds. Raven Merriweather added 16 points, six assists, and three steals. Ashley Johnson recorded seven points and seven steals.
Tearra Banks led Ballard with 28 points and 16 rebounds. Banks was 10 of 18 from the field and eight of eight from the free throw line. Jovanna Layfield added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
