Estill County vs. Model Laboratory (Girls)
Model Laboratory School
Richmond, KY
November 26, 2012
What do you do when you are approaching your season opener with your two most experienced players out with injuries? That is what Model coach Ronald Preece faced with 5-8 Jr. Darrian Botts and 5-8 Jr. Madison Keene out with injuries. However it worked out well with the old cliché “Youth must be served” the kiddie corps or the baby brigade however you want to say it started the game with four eighth graders and a sophomore and handed Estill County a 57-37 defeat.
The veteran of the group 5-7 So. Hayley Hunt settled the team down and got the younger players comfortable and after the score was tied at 18-18 Model began to take control of the game. The Lady Patriots led 32-21 at halftime and pulled away in the third quarter to settle the issue. 6-0 8th grader Mallie Cornett was a terror on both ends of the court for Model with 22 points, 19 rebounds, 13 blocks, four steals, and two assists. She calmly connected on eight of eight free throws and the remarkable stat for me was only two personal fouls considering how active she was on both ends of the court.
5-6 8th grader Kasi Schneid and 5-7 So. Hayley Hunt added 15 and 14 points respectively. 5-4 So. Kennedy Flynn led Estill County with 23 points.
