Boyd County (21-10) (Region 16)  vs.  Sheldon Clark (24-8) (Region 15)

 

Boyd County coach Pete Fraley started the following lineup: 5-11 Sr. Brittany Luttrell, 5-7 Jr. Courtney Moore, 6-1 Sr. Kelsey Plybon, 5-5 Jr. Kaitlin Brown, and 5-4 Sr. Kelcie Chaney.  Sheldon Clark coach Darrin Rice countered with 5-8 So. Katelyn Newsome, 5-6 Fr. Hannah Spurlock, 5-11 So. Kandice Porter, 5-1 Jr. Whitney Hatfield, and 5-7 Sr. Carla Booth.

 

Sheldon Clark held a 27-8 advantage in free throw points and shot 53.8% from the field in a 74-59 victory over Boyd County.  Sheldon Clark shot 53.8% from the field including five of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 27 of 35 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 20 Boyd County turnovers.  Boyd County shot 36.2% from the field including nine of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Lions connected on eight of 16 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored  seven points off 15 Sheldon Clark turnovers.  Boyd County attempted 19 more shots (58-39) from the field than Sheldon Clark.

 

Katelyn Newsome led Sheldon Clark with 23 points.  Carla Booth added 21 points including 13 of 15 from the free throw line, and added eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.  Kandice Porter recorded 16 points, six rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Hannah Spurlock chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.

 

5-8 8th grader Logan Fraley led Boyd County with 18 points including five three point baskets.  Kelsey Plybon added 17 points.  Kelcie Chaney recorded nine points and six assists.

Newport Central Catholic (25-4) (Region 9)  vs.  Calloway County (30-1) (Region 1)

 

Newport Central Catholic coach Ron Dawn started the following lineup: 5-9 Jr. Aubrey Muench, 5-8 Sr. Brittany Fryer, 5-10 Fr. Nicole Kiernan, 5-7 Sr. Kiley Bartels, and 5-7 Sr. Hannah Thiem.  Calloway County coach Scott Sivills countered with 6-0 Sr. Averee Fields, 5-6 Jr. Karlee Wilson, 6-0 Jr. Alyssa Cunningham, 5-6 Jr. Abby Futrell, and 5-4 Jr. Taylor Futrell.

 

Calloway County defeated Newport Central Catholic 62-57 in overtime.  Newport Central Catholic led by 10; 22-12 in the second quarter and Calloway County held a seven point lead; 34-27 in the third quarter.  Newport Central Catholic’s Kiley Bartels hit two free throws with four seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 53-53.  Calloway County missed a three pointer at the buzzer and the game went to overtime.  Taylor Futrell scored six points in overtime to lead Calloway County to victory.

 

Calloway County shot 43.8% from the field including one of nine from the three point line.  The Lakers connected on 19 of 31 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 26 points off 22 Newport Central Catholic turnovers.  Newport Central Catholic shot 34% from the field including seven of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Thoroughbreds connected on 18 of 21 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 14 Calloway County turnovers.  5-4 Jr. Olivia Huber, Brittany Fryer, and Aubrey Muench all fouled out for Newport Central Catholic.

 

Averee Fields led Calloway County with 30 points, nine rebounds, four assists, five blocked shots, and six steals.  Alyssa Cunningham added 12 points and eight rebounds.  Abby Futrell and Taylor Futrell each recorded eight points.

 

Hannah Thiem led Newport Central Catholic with 18 points including five three point baskets.  Nicole Kiernan added 17 points including nine of nine from the free throw line and 11 rebounds.  Kiley Bartels chipped in with 14 points, six assists, and three steals.

Rockcastle County (32-1) (Region 12)  vs.  Madison Central (23-9) (Region 11)

 

Rockcastle County coach Chrysti Noble started the following lineup: 5-9 Sr. Shanlee Burton, 5-6 Sr. Sydney Arvin, 6-2 Sr. Sara Hammond, 5-6 Sr. Kristin Abney, and 5-5 Sr. Angie Lawrence.  Madison Central coach Robbie Cooksey countered with 5-11 So. Ashton Feldhaus, 5-9 Sr. Jenna Cornelison, 5-10 Jr. Kristin Congleton, 5-6 Sr. Erika Parks, and 5-5 So. Larryn Brooks.

 

Madison Central led 46-42 after three quarters but Rockcastle County rallied to earn a 55-52 victory in a thriller.  Rockcastle County took the lead for good 54-52 on a basket by Angie Lawrence with less than 30 seconds remaining on the clock.  Madison Central had three shots at the basket in the last 20 seconds but could not find the range.

 

Rockcastle County shot 41.7% from the field including one of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Rockets connected on 14 of 24 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 15 Madison Central turnovers.  Madison Central shot 41.7% from the field including six of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Indians connected on six of eight free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored eight points off seven Rockcastle County turnovers.

 

Sara Hammond led Rockcastle County with 23 points and 12 rebounds.  Shanlee Burton added 11 points.  Angie Lawrence recorded 10 points and five steals.

 

Ashton Feldhaus led Madison Central with 18 points including three three point baskets.  Larryn Brooks added 17 points and three steals.  Jenna Cornelison chipped in with eight points and six rebounds.

Owensboro Catholic (27-7) (Region 3)  vs.  Clay County (26-6) (Region 13)

 

Owensboro Catholic coach Ray Zuberer started the following lineup: 6-1 So. Rebecca Greenwell, 5-9 Sr. Lauryn Yevincy, 6-0 Jr. Mary Kate Clemens, 5-4 Jr. Laura Riney, and 5-4 So. Leah Greathouse.  Clay County coach James Burchell countered with 5-11 So. Morgan Chestnut, 5-9 Jr. Sabrina Smith, 6-1 Sr. Whitney Belle Jackson, 5-5 Jr. Alisha Mitchell, and 5-7 Sr. Kayla Smith.

 

Clay County defeated Owensboro Catholic by a score of 61-48 in a game that had more drama than the final score indicated.  Clay County led 20-10 after the first quarter and 32-23 at halftime and appeared to be coasting toward a victory.  Clay County lost PG Kayla Smith late in the third quarter with an injury and post player Whitney Belle Jackson fouled out early in the final quarter.  The rejuvenated Owensboro Catholic team cut the deficit to two; 42-40.  Clay County rallied behind Jr. guard Alisha Mitchell and pulled away for the victory.

 

Clay County shot 64.9% from the field including one of four from the three point line.  The Lady Tigers connected on 12 of 22 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 14 Owensboro Catholic turnovers.  Owensboro Catholic shot 37% from the field including six of 26 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Aces connected on eight of nine free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 14 Clay County turnovers.

 

Alisha Mitchell led Clay County with 20 points.  Kayla Smith added 13 points.  Whitney Belle Jackson chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds.  Morgan Chestnut recorded six points and seven rebounds.

 

Rebecca Greenwell led Owensboro Catholic with 28 points and six rebounds.  Lauryn Yevincy added six points and four rebounds.
