Familiar An entity, elemental, or animal used as an aid in ritual. A spirit or guardian who bonds with a human and is considered a companion in magick. The spirit is often manifested in a sacred object or a pet. This explains the misconception that all witches have black cats, which is not necessarily true. Although a cat is a magickal creature and often becomes a familiar, they are not always black. See Fetch

Fana (ARB) A Sufi term meaning “becoming absorbed in God.” See Samadhi; Samaya.

Fascination The practice of controlling another's mind psychically. Some traditions consider this to be an infraction of the Rede and manipulative. Often misused as a frivolous way to control another individual.

Fate The predestined result of life after a sequence of preordained events.

Fetch An entity familiar who, according to legendary grimoires, generally reside within statues or similar ritual artwork during the times when they are "not in use". Often referred to as "one who carries out hexes" also; an entity set forth to accomplish the work for the "owner".

Five-fold Kiss A traditional salute normally performed between the High Priest and the High Priestess. This “Kiss” involves kissing the five areas of the body on the Priestess with the accompanying magickal words:
"Blessed be thy feet, that have brought thee in these ways."
"Blessed be thy knees, that shall kneel at the sacred altar."
"Blessed be thy womb, without which we would not be."
"Blessed be thy breasts, formed in beauty."
"Blessed be thy lips, that shall utter the sacred names."

Flying Ointments Lotion or creams used to facilitate astral or etheric projection. These mixtures usually contain potent psychedelic agents such as belladonna, henbane, and mandrake.

Full Moon The phase of the moon when it has fully waxed. Considered to be the best time for spells involving psychic powers, and general magick.

Futhark The Runic alphabet used in divination. The Futhark’s origins are Norse (Germanic). It is divided into the elder Futhark and the younger Futhark (which contain fewer runes).
