Welcome to my site. Sorry about not putting this on the front page, but Cobra Commander decided that I needed a page all my own to explain why I've allied myself with Cobra.
There are a few reasons. First off, I need to get something off my chest. This is not real. This site is in fact a game. You know, it's rather tough to talk about applicants and keep it such that people realize I'm talking about your character, not your real life self. I really don't need a bunch of real-life wannabe terrorists think that Cobra is real. I've had stranger things happen in my time as a gamemaster for some... unusual games.
Second. I've been a huge fan of GI Joe since it first premiered on television. I never bought the comic books or any of the action figures. A lot of the information on this site is based on my knowledge of GI Joe from the cartoons and the various sites that are on the Net that have helped me in filling in the holes. There's a thank you section below. I've also placed links on the links page which have been 'Approved by Cobra Commander for Operative Use'. In other words, they're really cool and I hope you take the time to look them over.
What this site represents is almost a year of various attempts at games of this nature. I was never really comfortable, and with some major personal problems, my other attempts came crashing down around my ears without really getting anywhere. That's my fault and I freely admit that sometimes I royally screw up when it comes to games, not thinking things through etc.
However, this site is one of two different sites I hope to have up in the summer months. The other side of the coin is of course the good guys. Cobra needs an enemy, something to make it hard for them right? So, very much like this site, there will be a GI Joe site in the future that will deal with joining a very similar game surrounding the GI Joe team.
Some people might wonder about what I'm going to consider canon etc. Canon is that GI Joe and Cobra exist. That's it. I'm not going to stick to the timeline of the comic books. Personally, after reading some of the reviews, I think the comic just is not what I'm looking for. The cartoons are on the other end of the spectrum, creating a massive superhero type game. I'm not going there either.
This is a military campaign first and foremost. Despite Cobra's terrorist organization, I'm going to be sticking very much to military regulations etc. All new players will be going through boot camp, no matter the experience of the player in other roleplaying games. I'm a stickler for a few things, and it will become readily apparant during boot camp.
The other thing is that many people are probably going to ask about Zartan, Major Bludd and the like. Can I play them or something similar etc.? Well, the answer to the first part about playing them is simply No. Those characters are truly off-limits. Sorry, but find yourself a free-form game if you want that. As to the 'similar' idea, you need to follow the character generation rules on the site. Most of the NPCs in the universe are above and beyond what you could create with those rules, so you need to think in the long term.
Now since that's over with... I can get on to the thank yous.
First off, heh. Dave of Airtight's Hostile Environment. Most of the graphics on this site have been created by him and I either got them off his website or had him custom create them for me. Thanks Dave!
Second, the staff of YoJoe.com for creating one hell of a site. The information that is located there is unbelieveable. There is a lot of information on this site that have been incorporated from that site.
Third, the former crew of the site dedicated to Cobra Command. I don't know if they're still around or not, but the vehicle information on the site was taken from their site and converted to the rule system that I'm using.
Fourth, Heartbreaker Games for creating the Mutant Chronicles game world. Although there is no Mutant Chronicles in this game, the RPG system that they created is used in this site extensively.
The people at Hasbro, of course, and anyone else I might have forogtten.
One last thing. The dreaded disclaimer. Nothing on this
site is intended to infringe upon the rights of Hasbro Inc. and their GI
Joe line. This is just another fan site dedicated to a wonderful
cartoon that really has become an icon in pop culture today.
