I was talking to a friend today and she was talking about a friend of hers with lots of money. About her how boyfriend's actually really nice even though he has lots of money.
That's pretty much the same reaction I got when I introduced my mum to a friend of mine, "They were actually really nice, like anyone you meet in the street." Like money would automatically mean that you are really stuck up and rude. Sure, some people are like that but far from everyone. And the worst thing is that people sound like you should get an award for being wealthy AND nice. Like they didn't know that people could be both things.
Personally, I couldn't care less about how much money people have, as long as they are nice and friendly. Maybe I'm like that because most people I know (and elsewhere in Western civilization) have more money than me, I don't know...
I have friends in all categories of income, and as long as they realize that you can't afford all those fancy things they're used to doing, there's usually no problem. Hopefully they're with you because they like you, and what does it matter then if you're drinking your coffee in Italy or your local coffee place.
