Spider Ant
The spider ant lives in association with ants, whose shape it resembles. The family
Salticidae, distributed over the whole world, is made up of specimens measuring between 1/5 and 4/5 inches, and characterized by their large eyes. This is the biggest family of spiders, combining more than 2,800 species divided into 435 genera. The genus Myrmarachne is made up of species which resemble ants, not only in the shape of their body, but also in their way of moving. They use their three posterior pairs of legs and move forward jerkily. The anterior legs are raised above the ground. So it can be said that these spiders actually mimic ants. Other species imitate beetles.
