Just So Stories (1902) The Elephant's Child In this link supported narrative I discuss, from the "what-why-when-how-where-who" parameters, whether or not a picture obtained from my camera is (as I maintain) a picture of an alien praying mantis.

http://www.ufobc.ca/Beyond/prayingmantis2.htm(8) http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/2000/2154.html(6) Praying Mantis What is the figure displayed in this picture that my camera took in August, 1991? Though its dimensions and their placements differ slightly from both the earthly praying Mantis (Fig 2)and the UFO praying Mantis (Fig. 3a, 3b, & 3c)(e.g. my Mantis's eyes are positioned more horizontally than the eyes in the above pictures I have of the other both earthly and UFO examples. Also my Mantis appears to be somewhat shorter than the UFO type pictured above and somewhat squatter than the earthly type.) What were much more compelling to me, however were the number of similarities I noted between my Mantis picture and the other Mantis pictures above. There's the huge orbular oval/almond shaped eyes, and the placement of those eyes to the extreme sides of their heads. Their heads are all triangular "insect-heads". Their bodies are all skinny and various versions of barrel shaped.

I published the following short article on the Web around 1999 or 2000. The picture was uploaded on 07/08/04 and some editing was done on this insertion on 07/12/04.

"1991 A.D. August 14,1991 E.T. Photo" The U.P.S. truck brought us three telephone power supplies in the morning. R.C.A. had sent them Red-Label meaning that they needed a swift repair. The packages looked like they had been run over with a truck so John grabbed our incoming MRA clip board and our faithful Polaroid camera, but before he could aim the camera, to shoot a picture, it went off. When the photo spit out I took the camera, tore the picture off and set it aside. I took three sucessful shots of the power supplies and we filed them into the insurance file for R.C.A. Turning the first shot over I was amazed at the being staring back at our camera. "Well John, you got a picture of an E.T. here" I joked. The photo showed a being resembling a praying mantis of about human size."(1)Robert Colee

WHEN:

The day before this incident, John Sullivan and I, ventured into our telecommunications lab and found evidence of a small fire. On the tops of two of our PBX telephone systems, a Hitachi HD200 and a Mitel SX200 were ashes of burned paper and between the two systems which were about five feet apart was a small scrap of burned paper. Being extremely safety conscious and also being engineers with a strong scientific training we decided that there could be no apparant cause of combustion. I jokingly said, "Poltergeists". John being the more grounded, and not believing in fairy tales decided that it had to be someone playing games. My take was that no person had visited the lab since we had quit work the night before.

The morning of August 15, 2001 started with a delivery by United Parcel Service. Among the items were several Hitachi DX30 POWC power supplies that had come in crushed by U.P.S. Since these were parts sent by R.C.A. Telecom for normal service or repairs, we decided to grab the shop Polaroid camera and take some pictures for R.C.A. to file an insurance claim with the carrier. We were hoping that these items were insured for full value as they cost several thousand dollars each. As John picked up the camera it went off. "John stop wasting film and give me the camera", I raised my voice impatiently. I am a caffeine addict and do not handle morning financial setbacks well. So three normal photos were taken, by me, of bent and twisted power supplies. I picked up the photo that had first ejected and saw what looked like a picture of a big bug. Instead of throwing it away, I decided to keep it. Partly to annoy John, who doesn't believe in anything like U.F.O.'s or extraterrestrials, I scribbled "E.T. in Lab 8/14/91", in Magic Marker. I then took it upstairs to my wife's office showed it to her and hung it on the wall. It got little comment for the next several years as it hung there communing with the staff and family of our company.

In 1990 we had started our fledgling telecommunications company, (2)Global Communications Group, in the basement of our house in Norcross, Georgia. By 1996 we had aquired a telecommunications lab in an industrial complex and had started several Internet stores and retail stores in another location. This was done under the concept of a telephone company that had joined the Information Superhighway", and was diversifying. One of our stores was "Camelots Curios" a New Age Gift store and one of our Web sites was (3)"The Martian Colonization Project".https://www.angelfire.com/electronic/planetarycom/mars1.html Since we were doing a lot of research in the field of U.F.O.s and E.T. aliens, when a U.F.O. Convention convened in Atlanta we attended.

Almost as an afterthought I snatched the Mantis photo from the wall and took it with me. Upon finally arriving at the convention after a lot of electronic failures, see (4)https://www.angelfire.com/electronic/planetarycom/ufoconvention.html my wife, Anne's site recounting the events, I pulled out the photo. Walking up to a group who seemed to be U.F.O. researchers, I asked, "Hey ya'll ever seen one of these guys?". Marc Davenport and I think Al Bielik steered me to , David Huggins(5) , table where a piece of art was on display portraying one of my photo subjects next of kin, Mantis Man.

The concept of a Praying Mantis as a sentient being fascinated me. Both my wife and myself talked with Mr. Huggins for a while about his adventures which included encounters with both Hybrid Aliens and Mantis Aliens. Later Marc Davenport and I got together and he asked me to make a slide copy of my picture to be used by him in presentations of physical evidence. Weeks later I sent him a slide as well as the camera for analysis. He never responded back although we had discussed a possible collaboration of a book deal.

On our planet the Praying Mantis is considered a beneficial insect. Being a carnivore it will eat many of the harmful insects in a garden, and is sought by many people to include in the garden. http://www.hbccufo.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1271(7) The Praying Mantis Aliens by Ann Barnet
"One of the first reports of praying mantis aliens came to our awareness through John Lear. Outside of Ufology, Lear is best known as the son of the inventor of the Lear jet. He is also an internationally-acclaimed pilot who flew missions for the CIA. Lear has been interviewed numerous times by radio personality Art Bell on the Coast to Coast AM radio talk show and by others. He has a strange story to tell about alien agendas and government conspiracies. He has also given a number of lectures. So it is not surprising to find references to his work in "The Ultimate Deception" by Commander X (Abelard Productions, Inc. 1990). Commander X is the pseudonym for a retired military officer who claims to have firsthand knowledge about the US government's conspiratorial bargain with, and then betrayal from, an alien species. Commander X, relaying the story by John Lear, says, General James H. Doolittle (the famous flying ace of WWII) went to Sweden in 1946 to inspect a flying saucer that had crashed there in Spitzbergen. (He may have confused Sweden with Norway during this conversation.) The horrible truth was known by only a very few persons: They were indeed ugly little creatures, shaped like praying mantises and who were more advanced than us by perhaps a billion years.

Standing before me was a tall Mantis-like being! The same mantis being I had seen before. This wasn't like the short cloaked being I saw before, the terror I felt upon seeing this sight was completely overwhelming. The only way I can describe it is, it feels like waves of fear washing over you."

"A more distinctive kind of extraterrestrial is the "Praying Mantis type" race. These Beings have long, narrow faces, with long, narrow, large eyes, sharply slanted upward and outward in an almost narrow-V position, given an almost insect-like appearance. This comparison is heightened by the Praying-Mantis types' extremely thin, long torsos, long, extremely-thin arms which are usually crooked into a sharp bend at the mid-joint, with the hand and fingers/mitten sloping almost vertically downward from the "wrist", and legs also bent at an almost right-angle at the mid-joint, creating a crouched pose. The overall effect is the characteristic "Praying Mantis" look. It should be noted that experiencers feel that this type is no insect, but rather an intelligent, gentle-spirited, but somewhat "hyper" and jerky-moving, human-like lifeform, both males and females. "The "Praying Mantis" is truly a most remarkable creature with a striking appearance and curious habits!"

On other worlds perhaps the Praying Mantis has evolved into an advanced being and is a Gardener of Worlds. (10)Alien lists provided by Dr. Salla and the prepare for contact group.

Why:

My personal theory is that this being wanted to have a picture taken of itself. (11)"For years I have been carrying cameras for the express purpose of capturing physical evidence of U.F.O. craft or occupants. I have seen much evidence of the existence of extraterrestrial beings, but before capturing a picture of the Mantis man, my attempts at filming the UFO's I have observed have met with failure.

How:

My theory of how we were able to capture this photograph lies in the principles of the Kirlian Effect. I became aware of this in the 1970s as I believe it was mentioned in "The Secret Life of Plants".(12) http://www.earthpulse.com/products/secret.html
by Peter Tompkins & Christopher Bird Authors of Secrets of the Soil
Several years of research led to the building of a device in 1982, while working in our laboratory of the store we owned at the time, "Interplanetary Trading Company", on Williston Road in Gainesville Florida. Our store sold N.A.S.A. and military surplus electronics as well as repaired televisions. Our experiments resulted in failure after failure. The theory we were using was to provide an electronic signal in the range of around five Megahertz to fifteen Megahertz that would surround a normal optical lens of an off the shelf Polaroid camera. I believe that the field strengths of our pump oscillator were too low as well as there being too much ambient light.

This was the last time before the accidental photo of August 8, 1991 that I gave more than a passing thought to the Kirlian Effect. Our telecommunications laboratory of Global Communications Group consisted of about three or four large Hitachi DC30 PABX telephone systems which ran all the time plus other computer and test devices. I know for a fact that we had a rather high level of broad spectrum electronic noise, generated at all times. Our Collins R392 short wave receiver was all but blocked from receiving outside signals unless most of the other equipment was turned off.

There is a lot of controversy relating to the supposed Kirlian Effect. My understanding is that energy can be represented by a spectrum with electromagnetic waves in the low radio frequencies being in the bottom of the spectrum while infrared, visible light, ultraviolet and highr frequencies being towards the upper part of the spectrum. When electromagnetic signals are combined they have a result of producing several differant frequencies. This is the Superhetrodyne principle that has been used in radio communications from the earliest part of the Twentieth Century to the present. The simple formula is F1 + F2 = F3 and F1 - F2 = F4, where F = frequency is usually counted in Hertz or cycles per second. The bottom band of A.M. radio is around 540,000 Hz or 540KHz, while the top of the F.M. radio band is 108,000,000Hz or 108MHz. Visible light is much higher in frequency. When an energy that is slightly out of range of visible light is combined with the right other frequency a new combined frequency will appear in the visible spectrum and may be detected optically. http://www.thiaoouba.com/kiref.htm
(13) Kirlian effect - the principle, tricks, techology and the truth. By Dr Tom J. Chalko, MSc, PhD, University of Melbourne, Australia
"It is my duty as a scientist and academic to comment on science, tricks and quackery of contemporary Aura "technology". At nearly every New Age festival you can find commercially minded people who will ask you to pay for a "photo of your Aura". (14) http://www.kirlian.co.uk/effect.htm
"The Kirlian effect is named after the Russian scientists Semyon and Valentina Kirlian who dedicated their lives to recording the energetic fields around objects and organisms. Kirlian Photography is the technique of capturing such energetic fields on photographic film or paper. The Kirlian effect has been known since the 1880?s when Nicola Tesla found that a luminous discharge appeared around his body when exposed to a high frequency electromagnetic field. An International Unit for Bioelectrography promotes Kirlian techniques and applications. Kirlian effect was researched and developed by various specialists in many countries all around the world, such as USA, Brasile, Ukraine and many others" (15) http://www.fortunecity.com/greenfield/bp/16/kirlian.htm
Can the Kirlian effect be used to visualize a scalar field ? Luc Lachapelle "The set-up to make a Kirlian photograph is actually quite simple. The photographic film is exposed for a certain amount of time, while still packed in his plastic envelope, to a high frequency high voltage field applied to two electric plates (one if the subject is grounded) influencing the subject and the film. Stunning color photograph can be made by this method although they elude all explanation relative to the color interpretation."
(16) http://www.theness.com/encyc/Kirlian-encyc.html
The New England Skeptical Society Encyclopedia of Skepticism and the Paranormal "There is no doubt that Kirlian photographs themselves are not fakes; they are photographing something, the question is exactly what are they capturing. The most likely explanation, one that is accepted even by many psychic believers, is that the effect is a kind of Corona Discharge. Corona discharge is responsible for regular lightning, the sparks that come off your fingers after you walk on a carpet, and St. Elmo’s fire, among other effects. Nikola Tesla used to introduce new discoveries at presentations at which his body would glow and sparks would fly from his fingertips, using a similar technique. A team of physicists and psychologists at Drexel University has spent some years studying the Kirlian effect, and has concluded that the major determinant in a Kirlian photograph is the amount of moisture present on the object or skin. It is certainly plausible that different moods and stresses might create different amounts of moisture on the fingertips (for instance). This is the basis of the lie detector. Phantom leaf effects, on the other hand, are very rare, the Drexel team has never produced one, but they theorize a number of possibilities, including residue on the photographic plate and coincidence, not to mention the possibility of outright fraud in some cases. Overall, although Kirlian photography is not perfectly understood, there is no evidence that variations in Kirlian photographs are due to any paranormal effects. The Drexel team has created a list of 25 factors that can effect a Kirlian photograph, including attributes of the skin, recent physical activity, and, yes, mental stress. All of them effect the amount of moisture on the skin. As for the medical possibilities of Kirlian photography, they are often overestimated. Variations have many causes, but it is very difficult to determine those causes from looking at a photograph, many of the known causes create exactly the same Kirlian variations. HOME BREW KIRLIAN CAMERA By CRAIG BRATCHER, Kirlian Engineer http://www.cebunet.com/kirlian

"These instructions cover how to assemble a real working Kirlian Camera using off-the-shelf parts. This unit is powerful enough to photograph fingertips and small specimens such as leaves and coins. It does not have enough power to take an image of a whole hand or large objects."

In conclusion this is what I have, a real Polaroid print, no real knowledge of what it portrays except that it looks like what other folks have called the Mantis Man E.T., an educated guess of how it was done, and a whole lot of unanswered questions. I also have considered equipment failures such as photographic emulsion failure ( The Photographic Process: Effect of Ionizing Radiation on Photographic Emulsions
"Photographic Emulsion Reactions
The emulsion can be exposed by light photons, X-rays, gamma rays, or, in the case of autoradiography, by moving charged particles such as electrons or positrons") ( Google.com search results for photographic emulsion failure.) and photographic lens flare. Google.com search results for photographic lens flare.

Being a provider of evidence, a prime witness as well as a critical examiner and researcher has placed a great burden for being my own self critic. My belief is that the evidence stands on its own merits. However I welcome any other answers, as this is a possible multi-dimensional effect question.

Anyone who wishes to examine the photo may come to my residence and see for yourself. I will not send the original anywhere that I cannot accompany, but will be glad to bring it with me if trip expenses are covered. I will allow only a small destructive test to be performed, if I am compensated and the results are given to me and allowed to be posted on the Web.

The other problem is this photo could be fraudlent. While John and I did not intentionally fake this print, we are both unclear as to where the camera was pointed when it went off. I am hoping for some one to do photo enhancements to see clearly the being behind the glow. I would be very surprised and some what embarrassed if John's or my smiling face appeared. But at least we would have closure.
