This is a rather pictographic boxing in Chinese martial arts. As the name connotes, it contains movements depicting a person in a drunken state. With faltering steps and body stumbling, the performer now raises his cup and pours out the wine for himself, now wriggles and staggers along like a drunkard, as if on the verge of falling. With it's unique and fantastic movements, this veritable heirloom has been handed down from generation to generation. Drunken Kung Fu is not a system in Chinese Martial Arts, but a fighting
form of Chinese Kung Fu. There are many various Northern and Southern
Drunken Kung Fu forms. The description and movements of this style symbolize
a person who is under the influence, and the movements as well as the
practitioner look clumsy and relaxed. Legend has it that once a practitioner
was involved in combat, he would perform far better if he had a drink
between his countering and attacking. During the form there is a lot
of 'preparing for a toast' postures asking for a refill. The hand and
finger positioning demonstrate as if the practitioner is holding a cup.
