The Ukrainian Workers Home on Carpenter in Detroit - anyone know about it?. Hamtramck Steve responded: The Ukrainian Workers Home was pretty much what it's name implies: a clubhouse run by and for Ukrainian immigrants. It was a place of their own where they could shoot the breeze. The place also offered support services for unemployed Ukrainians in the Great Depression. Hamtramck city proper had something very similar in the worker's hall on Yemans, referred to as the "Russians." Whoever's responsible for mortaring over the building's name should lose a hand, IMO...Click each pic for a LARGE view
