The DBZ Dojo

.:Counter:.

Top_News: The commercials currently airing on Cartoon Network advertise that the new season of Dragonball Z will be airing on the 10th of September. This is a week after the previous announced date. I guess they must have had some scheduling conflicts.

The DBZ Dojo - Dbz Faq's -Dbz Faq's-

Basic Questions

What is Dragonball?
Dragonball is based on a Chinese legend, with a modern twist. The show focuses on a group of Earthlings who know martial arts and are capable of manipulating energy. It is a good ten years old now, though it has only recently been displayed to a mass audience in America.

What channel number is DB/Z played on?
This is a very silly question, considering that most every cable provider has a different channel number. Just check your TV Guide or the preview channel for station numbers.

Who created DB/Z/GT?
DB was created by Toei Entertainment in conjuncture with Bird Studios, and is based on the mangas of Akira Toriyama. The show was produced in Japan, and is dubbed into English by FUNimation. This is why you will see many spellings of names from the series, as the translation is far from perfect. DBGT was also created by Toei/Bird, but Toriyama was not in on the project.

Series Questions

When will Cartoon Network show new episodes? Currently, CN is airing 77 new episodes of DBZ Monday through Thursday, which will cover the Android Saga and Cell Game in their entirety. They will probably air reruns for a couple months after this run is over to build excitement.

What does FUNimation plan to release in the future?
Cartoon Network has purchased the rest of DBZ, so we can infer that FUNimation will eventually release these episodes ^_^. Expect VHS releases to come first, followed by DVDs (The delay will probably grow less and less as tapes fall out of favor and people switch to a digital format). Movies 4, 5, and 6 are also scheduled for release in 2001. DB and DBGT have not been confirmed yet, but CN has expressed interest in both series. There's a pretty good chance we'll see them after DBZ has aired in its entirety (There's a slight possibility the original Dragonball will air before DBZ finishes). While nothing official has come from Ft. Worth, we can pretty much guarantee both series will see some TV action here in the US soon.

What happens in episode such and such/who is this character/etc?
Please, for the sweet love of god, do not e-mail us about what happens in the series. This is what the story, bios, message board, and this page are for. We will pretty much ignore any of these questions, unless we deem that the query is unanswerable from the info on this site. It takes us about 5 minutes to dig up answers to questions we don't know off the top of our heads. Multiply that by the amount of e-mail we get, and that's a lot of time wasted.

How is the version in the US different from the original?
The American variant is greatly censored and cut, which greatly angered viewers who had seen the original. Roughly 19% on average is cut from every episode from seasons one and two; 53 American shows are the same as 65 of the Japanese version. Season three animation has remained pretty much untouched in the cut version, but the dialogue has been butchered significantly. And contrary to popular belief, there is no cussing at all in DB, DBZ, or DBGT. The fan subs tend to take liberties with the episodes and add a "fuck" and a "shit" when they feel it is necessary (Although there are mild insults and taunts, not to mention the occasional flipping the bird ^_^).

Where can I get the DBZ Daizenshuus (World Guides)?
Currently, one of the few places on the internet that offers it is Galaxy Manga. If you live in a large metropolis like New York City, go to the China Town. If you do a little searching, you will find anime stores that will sell the books.

How many episodes of DB/Z/GT are there?
Dragonball: 153
Dragonballz: 291
Dragonballgt: 64

What is the proper spelling of a(n) character/attack/place?
Vegeta...Vegeta...Bejita...Begita...so many ways to spell the same character. But which one is the right one? There certainly are some names that are completely wrong (Freeza, for instance), but many versions are completely acceptable. You have to understand that these names were first written in the Japanese language, and the transition to an Arabic character language (like English) is not always a smooth one.

Why did the voices change for season 3?
Here's a real doozy of a question. To avoid turning this into an essay, we'll make it short and sweet. FUNi stopped producing episodes for a while when Sabam closed their syndication branch. By the time they started back up, Ocean Group (the old studio) was booked with other projects and wasn't ready to start new DBZ eps right away. FUNi figured that with the time it would take to start with Ocean again they could start their own studio, have more creative control over the show, do it for cheaper, and pump out episodes way faster that way. The choice was pretty obvious.

Is there another DB series besides Dragonball, Dragonball Z, and Dragonball GT?
No. Nothing is in production, and nothing is planned. There is no Dragonball AF. Most rumors of a new series come from fan Manga drawn in Japan, otherwise known as "doujinshi." Generally, these comics are very well drawn, and can easily be mistaken for Toriyama's work. However, they are fan-made, and are not considered a part of the DB universe.

Which came first: The Manga or the anime?
Dragonball appeared in Jump long before Goku made his debut on television. It has always been several months ahead of the anime (if not more). DBGT is the opposite, the TV show came before the comic (That Manga was authored by Toei, not Toriyama).

Who reached SSJ such-and-such first?
(Excluding the movies. I don't want to get into the Brolly debate... ^_^)
SSJ: Goku (One could argue it is the legendary SSJ, but Toriyama never addresses this)
USSJ: Vegeta
SSJ2: Gohan (Sorry geeks, Goku did not reach this level in the Spirit & Time room)
SSJ3: Goku
SSJ4: Goku

What do the 'Z' and 'GT' stand for?
Ah, the eternal question. I'll start with GT since it actually means something: It's an acronym for "Grand Tour." The beginning of GT involves a lot of traveling, so it's easy to see where it got its name. Z, on the other hand, stands for nothing. It's just a way to separate the series from Dragonball on television (There was no DBZ Manga...it was Dragonball all the way to Ubuu's arrival).

Site Questions

What do you use to create your site? We use Photo Shop 7 for the images, and Arachnophilia for the HTML (Pagespinner became tedious). The site is hosted on Angelfire.

Why isn't file (insert filename here) showing up properly?
95% of the time your browser is not set up properly. If you have not assigned a program to read mov files, when you try to view a clip it will look like garbled text. The simple fix is to install the FULL version QuickTime 4.0, which is available at http://quicktime.apple.com. Don't try to view the movie clips with media player once you have installed QT4, as it will not work. You HAVE to use the QuickTime plug in or movie player. Another common problem is that people click on a link and it looks like absolutely nothing happens. In actuality, the file was probably downloaded to your hard drive, and all you need to do is find out where the default download directory is. However, we will occasionally make mistakes with our links. In this case you will see the error page, which will give a 404 and state that the file was not found. If this happens to you, send the proper staff member an e-mail and tell us EXACTLY where the broken link is. We will try to fix it ASAP.

Can you help design my site or give me a few pointers?
We get way too many e-mails on this subject. There are plenty of web design sites out there where you can get some help. Do not e-mail us about this, we will just ignore it.

May I link to your page?
Of course you may, we don't mind the extra hits (Don't even try linking to our files, we have anti-leech software installed ^_-).

Can you link to my page please?
Most of the time, the answer is no. However, roughly once a month we have a link submission period where we take URLs for a few days and make a mass update to that section. Since this is a time-consuming process, we have to find a good day to do it, and there will be little warning. If you do miss a submission period, you'll have to wait for the next one. You will see an announcement in the news when we are accepting submissions. We do not add links in the interim.

Where do I submit fanart/fanfics?
Send fanart and fanfic to
Sage.

Can I print pictures/info from your site?
Sure you may, but if you decide to hand them out to friends and such, be sure to mention where you got them from. ^_-

Can you post something for me in your news?
No...if we shouted out to everyone's "homies" and wished every single visitor a happy birthday, there would not be time for much else, would there? Unless you have some important news that will affect the community, we don't want to hear it.

Why don't you ever change your layout?
If it isn't broke, don't fix it. We have made many small changes during the course of our history, but don't expect any sweeping new layouts for a long time.

Why do you limit your FTP to a certain speed/# of users?
*Makes money sign with fingers* Bandwidth doesn't come cheap, people. We try to give as many people as possible a chance to download without forcing yours truly to dine on rusty nails and shoe leather.

Will you post full episodes?
Maybe, but if we posted full episodes, the site would use hoards of bandwidth, FUNimation would lose sales, and we could get sued.

Game Questions

Can you send me a ROM of (insert game here)?
No. It's illegal, plain and simple.

I want to buy a DBZ game. Which one do you think is the best?
I prefer the fighters over the RPGs. Don't get me wrong, I love the RPGs, but the DBZ RPGs are... errr... not very challenging. Also, unless you can read Japanese, we suggest you stick with the fighters. As for which DBZ fighter to choose, they are all decent (except DBZ Final Bout). I enjoy Hyper Dimension, and Super Butouden 2 the most.

Can you please send me some DBZ ROMs?
No, no and NO! (Did I mention... no?) We will NOT send you any DBZ ROMs or links to download them. It's illegal to send ROMs via email.

Is (insert game name here) available in English?
Probably not. Only six games were released in English. They are:
Legend of the Super Saiyan - SNES
Dragonball Z: Hyper Dimension - SNES
Dragonball Z: Super Butouden 3 - SNES
Dragon Power (Shenron no Nazo) - NES
Dragonball Z: The Game (Buu Retsuden) - Genesis
Dragonball GT Final Bout (Dragonball Final Bout) - PSX
These games are no longer in production, and are impossible to find new. Check your local used game store, e-bay (be careful what you buy there!), or DBZ Game Retailers.

Why don't you list (insert name of rumored DBZ game here) on your page?
We aren't a rumors site. We only list released games. If you want rumors and hearsay, go to IGN, The GIA, or Sega Web (who, might we add, started the ever popular, but false, rumor of an DBZ Dreamcast game... we'd like to strangle them for that).

Will there ever be another DBZ game released in America?
Yes (Insert cheering here)! Infrogames has confirmed that they are developing Dragonball Z games for Gameboy Color and PSX or PS 2 (at least according to IGN) and possibly other platforms. From what we have gathered, you can expect the PS 2 game to totally kick ass (not to mention the fact that they will be listening to fan input and try their very best to please hard-core fans). Details will trickle in over the next year, so expect this Q&A to be updated again.

What's this I see about a French/Korean/British release of a game?
Several of the DBZ games were released in countries other than Japan and America. Some of these games were completely translated into a foreign language, while others were simply sold in other countries without being translated.

I heard there were some DBZ arcade games. If so, why aren't they on your list?
Yes. However, as it would be rather hard for us to get our hands on one of these games we still rely on our visitors to provide us with information on these games.

Other Questions

Can I use your files on my site?
Yes, but only if you follow these rules: Take only multimedia, NOT information or fan files; copy the files to your own server (no linking directly to the files - makes the site slow); and give us some credit. If you catch a site linking directly to our files, please report them to us. Some people out there are just extremely bored or stupid, and they soon grow weary of their venture and return to failing junior high. If your site is just other people's files, then there is no reason for you to have a website at all. Saving files to your hard drive or printing images for quick viewing is perfectly fine.

Can you send me (insert filename here)?
We really wish we could mass e-mail every person whatever files they want. (Yeah, right ^_-) We will absolutely NOT send you any files over e-mail, and NEVER create images/movies for people on special request. It would take too much of our time, leaving us no room to update anything else. If you are looking for a movie player, MP3 player, etc, please visit http://www.download.com. They will have any file viewer that you need to enjoy this site's content. Please take the time to download them off the net yourself.

I really love this site and would love to help! What can I do?
Well, as far as full-time staff goes, we are set. However, if you come across a new piece of news or info, please send it in to me.

What if I see another site with The DBZ Dojo's files linked?
Report them to us immediately. These people slow the server down, which means slower downloading and page loading for everyone.

Will you join my RPG/Webring/Site Alliance?
No. Rest assured that if we wanted to, we would do so on our own will.

What if the answer to my question is not found anywhere on this page?
Contact Me. You are NOT guaranteed a response, but we do attempt to answer every intelligent e-mail we receive.
