The United States marines in Japan after the Pearl Harbor attack
After the Attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States made its entrance into World War II, joining the Netherlands and the British Commonwealth (excluding Ireland). The war with Japan ended in August of 1945 when the U.S. dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, forcing Japan to an unconditional surrender. On September 2, 1945,
the empire of Japan signed a declaration of surrender, officially ending World War II.
