The Ford Island Naval Air Station
in Pearl Harbor after the
December 7th attack
As a consequence of the attack, a total of 200 U.S. airplanes and 21 U.S. ships were damaged, although all but three of the ships would be used again. Not many Japanese ships were destroyed during the attack, although in the next 44 months
of war, the U.S. would sink all but one of the Japanese ships that participated in the Pearl Harbor attack. Of the 432 Japanese
airplanes that attacked Pearl Harbor, only 29 of them were destroyed. In approximately an hour and a half of fighting, 1,178
American servicemen and civilians were injured and 2,403 lost their lives in this tragic and unexpected attack on Pearl Harbor.
