Koko Taylor Koko Taylor
Queen of the Blues

Koko evolves from the Big Mama Thornton tradition with her full, raspy voice getting deep down into the bottom of the barrel (as Koko often puts it). This woman can SING the blues and make you feel the joy and the pain. I first saw her live at a free concert in Rockford, Illinois and have taken the opportunity to see her whenever possible--at the now defunct Chuy's Club in Tempe, at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix, at the lead off Alligator Records 25th anniversary concert in San Diego, at Buddy Guy's 59th birthday party, as headliner of the 2000 Chicago Blues Festival, and at the 2004 Bumbershoot in Seattle. Koko was awesome at every venue!
