Buddy Guy

I've seen Buddy Guy perform live six times now, but the most memorable time was at his 59th birthday party at his Legends club in Chicago. I had arrived there about 10 PM and had to wait outside because the club was filled to capacity; of course, real blues fans realize that the "real" stuff happens late into the night, so I was hoping for some novices to head out early. Sure enough some did, so I gained entrance.

Buddy was off to the side of the stage listening to a local group jam and talking w/ some friends, including Koko Taylor. About midnight Buddy strapped on his guitar and "re-incarnated" Hendrix, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and got deeper into the blues than I ever heard him before. Koko was co-erced into joining him and sang deep from the bottom of the basement type blues.

After an hour or so flew by, we all had some of Buddy's birthday cake, and Buddy signed autographs.
