Buddy Holly Lives, Long Live Rock & Roll

My all time favorite group would have to be The Crickets. They accomplished so much in such a brief period. I often wonder what they would be doing today if Buddy had lived. Holy Moly, he would be older than Mick Jagger. Would he still be rocking?

I want to believe that in some way he would.

I remember checking the record store, faithfully, for new releases. I was fifteen when he died. School had just gotten out and I was waiting for the school bus when I heard some kids talking about the crash. I was devistated. I hoped against hope that they were wrong.

I still visted the record shop and couldn't believe the new stuff that kept coming out after his death. I bought everything. I wish I still had those old forty fives and albums.

The lanky Texan is missed greatly by the world. Hard to believe, as I write this, that it has been forty years since his death. My dream was to meet him. A dream, that sadly, I never realized. He appeared once in my hometown at the height of his popularity. I was sick at the time and my mother thought it best that I stayed home. There will be other times she said.

My best goes out to the surving Crickets ( who I did get to see on a Waylon Jennings Tour) Joe B.Mauldin and Jerry Allison. I love you guys and who knows, maybe one day we will meet. Out of all fairness I mention Niki Sullivan and Tommy Allsup. Both these guys did a great job on rhythm guitar, at different times, with the Crickets.

The poster for the last show Buddy ever performed. At least in this world. But I like to believe the words of the Righteous Brothers hit. If there's a rock and roll heaven, you know they've got a hell of a band. Man what a show that would be.

It's hard to see in the picture, but that admission price is $1.25. Talk about a bargain.

The music didn't really die on February 3, 1959, but one hell of a person an performer sure did.
