Robots in Disguise Mini Ultra Magnus
Ultra Magnus was actually the last of the new basics I wanted to grab. I was definetly going
for the Scourge and X-Brawn pack, and the Optimus one I decided I couldn't do without once
I saw it. Ultra Magnus I picked up solely to complete the set (something I don't usually do).
Weirdly enough, in my opinion, Ultra Magnus is the second best of the bunch (after Scourge), though
X-Brawn got a higher score due to UM being not very good as a basic (though as a spychanger he
kicks ass).
Vehicle mode, of course, is the usual Ultra Magnus car carrier. It's the same as the
super version except it can't hold as many cars (only one on top). Also it has the usual
fake wheel problem. Ultra Magnus has the fake wheel disease the worst, though. He has four
real wheels, two painted wheels and four more wheels that aren't even painted. They just look
like four blue circles. Not overly cool.
Transformation is simple, but that's too be expected. Pull out his legs, flip the front of
the cab around (revealing his head), pull his arms out and finally swing around the track thingies
on his back to form his wings. Also, you can seperate his legs like Optimus, however, his have
slight hinges at the knees, so his feet can stand flat on the ground. Very cool.
As with the super version, this one has the funny extra long legs look. However, I don't
know if it's because I'm used to it, or because this toy is better than the super version, but
he looks pretty cool. Also he's very show accurate. Along with mini Scourge he's excellently
show accurate (X-Brawn comes in a close second, only because his legs are a bit too fat).
Also cool is the fact that this one has no trouble standing. Where the super version had
pretty much no feet, this one has some solid stuff under him. Always excellent to have toys
that can stand. Yeesh.
For some reason this is turning out to be a very short review, so I guess I'll sum it up now.
Ultra Magnus is an excellent spychanger. However, he's a bit lacking as a basic (going by
comparisons to the basics of the Beast series' and RID) since he's not overly poseable and
doesn't come with a weapon of any sort. In short, he's worth the five bucks, but don't
expect him to be any more than an oversized spychanger. Excellent spychanger, not so great
basic. Cool toy however, and not expensive. If you can't find X-Brawn/Scourge, pick this
one up.
