Beast Wars Dinobot Carded Tarantulas Bootleg
Well, I'll say one thing, this thing set new precedents in the cheapness of plastic for
bootlegs. Ahem. Okay, well first, these are pretty rare bootlegs, as far as I know there are
Tarantulas, Dinobot, Cheetor and Waspinator clones that are all packaged on Dinobot cards
with rocky bubbles. However the similarities to the original deluxes ends there. Unlike
the majority of Beast Wars toys, they are packaged in robot mode, not beast mode. Also they
are made out of a really, really cheap plastic. It's the same plastic that they use to make
stuff out of that you get in gumball machines (like those cheap rings and key chains).
Oddly enough, the color scheme of this Tarantulas is more accurate than the real non-bootleg
toy. Instead of his legs being gray, they are green, like in the show, and he's made of this
weird translucent purple plastic elsewhere on his body. It looks good, if you ignore the
overall cheap look of the plastic, but, of course, there are flaws.
First off his robot head actually broke apart when I first transformed him. I had to glue
the sides together. Also his arms keep falling off, as do his hands. On top of that his hands
are very loose and limp, so when he holds his gun his wrist goes limp. Not something you want
to see. As far as beast mode, his spider legs have problems staying on, and his transformation
is tough to complete as the slots on his arms don't always let the pegs fit into them, or it
results in his entire arm poping out of the socket. Oh yeah, and his gun doesn't fire.
Ah, but, that's what bootlegs are for I suppose. At any rate, where the real original
Tarantulas could set you back a good deal of cash (carded or loose), this one will set you
back far less, and it's a decent substitute. He stands well, and he can hold his
gun right with some effort, so it's not all that bad. It's really up to you I suppose, but
I've come to love the little rascal.
