This award was presented for the first time at the BMDCV Speciality in 2010.

Archie the winner of the 2014 Shining Knight Award

Archie and proud owner Nikki Smith who have won the Shining Knight Award for 2014

Nomination for the Shining Knight Award 2014 from Claudia Guli

I would like to nominate Nikki Smith’s boy Archie, for the Shining Knight Award. The first and foremost reason for the nomination is that he has donated blood every three months for the last 3 years and before that donated on an emergency basis. To be a regular canine blood donor is a tremendous gift that I would like to see acknoweldged.

In addition to this Archie has been a tremendous ambassador for the breed, helping Nikki run the puppy preschool at Craigieburn Animal Hospital for many years and teaching both small dogs and owners that Berners are gentle giants. He has also represented the breed and the BMDCV at many expos and functions over the years.

Archie has shown that Bernese are extremely versatile and capable. He achieved his conformation title at the age of 14 months and in 2008 easily obtained his Endurance Title which involved completing a 20km course at a run of just over 10km/hour. This is an amazing achievement for any dog but particularly a Bernese Mountain Dog.

Also in 2008, he won the Novice Obedience (Dogs) class at the Royal Melbourne show. He has also obtained his CD title, scoring the top score in the entire trial. He also has his CCD title with brilliant scores of 99/100, 99/100 and 98/100. Archie also does agility although he has no titles in this area as yet.

P.S. The Shining Knight Award is donated by Annie Bell each year in memory of her heart dog, Zanzebern Shining Knight - Harry Brat. The small shield is crafted in silver with an inlay of red enamel. A silver model of Annie's Harry Brat is set into the enamel. The piece is valued at over $1100.

This award is presented to a Bernese Mountain Dog who has achieved greatness through service to others. The Club would like to thank Annie Bell for this most generous contribution to the Club.

Annie has been awarded an Honorary Membership for 2013-2014 for her many contributions to the Club. .
