Its is a very disappointing stint for the Philippine Team this recent Olympics.
The Philippines had only eleven athletes, but this not the problem. The
thing is the evident politics that ruled over fair play and the spirit
of competition. Boxing analyst Recah Trinidad and his colleagues think
that the Lerios were robbed of their bronze medals. Favoritism was the
reason why Kitoy Cruz lost in his quarterfinal bout. Personal vendetta
was the reason why there is no boxing judge representative for the Philippines.
Or maybe not, maybe the Philippine Olympic Committee expected higher than
what our athletes could give. Maybe the politics doesn't only exist in
the International Olympic Committee, maybe right here in our very soil
politics in sports exist. Officials are using our athletes to make their
names sound a lot louder and make their pockets swell with money. Maybe
that is why Onyok Velasco opted to be in showbiz rather than box for his
motherland. Makes sense, doesn't it? Dear Editor,
Naghihintay ng inyong sagot.
