The mouse is another input device that is used on most modern PC’s. The main components of a mouse are:
· The main housing (the part you move around)
· Buttons (used to click selections)
· A cable that connects to the computer

There are currently 2 styles of mouse that are used on modern PC’s they are:
· A mechanical mouse, which uses a ball on the bottom of the mouse, which is in contact with the surface the mouse, is used on. The movement of the ball determines how the mouse cursor moves on the screen
· An optical mouse, which uses a light, which reflects down and back off the surface the mouse, is being used on. This is converted to an electrical pulse and determines how far the cursor moves on screen.

The mouse is connected to your PC using an AT connector, PS2 port or a USB port (the AT format is no longer used on modern PC’s)
