Spyware

The most common Internet threat is Spyware. Spyware are software that is installed into a subject's computer with or without knowledge of the user. Spyware can range from harmless, but irritating ads to far more dangerous effects. Spyware is known to be infecting over two-thirds of all computers that are connected to the Internet. Usually, Spyware is harmless, but very annoying. Some Spyware install permanent pop-up ads that spring up unexpectedly even if you're not connected to the Internet. Also, some Spyware can collect information from you based on the websites you visit and send this information to companies that can use this information in statistics or what not. Some Spyware can act like Trojans and even viruses and completely destroy your computer or steal your information.

JJust like the others, installing some software to deal with Spyware can easily stop most attacks. Spybot: Search and Destroy, a free anti-Spyware software, and Hi-Jack This, another free anti-Spyware software are some tools that can stop Spyware and in the case of Spybot, can stop attacks from happening before you even get to the website. Again, simple caution can stop most Spyware from getting installed in your computer. By not visiting certain websites can stop 90% of all Spyware, but it is very hard to tell which websites are legitimate. So keeping your anti-Spyware software up-to-date and ready to go is always the way to go.
