In the Mountain Province of northern Philippines, these layers upon layers of stair-like structures carved out of the sky. Built three thousand years ago by the Ifugaos, the terraces are part of a distinctively Asian system of irrigation and agriculture that utilizes the mountain slopes by carving them into embankments to trap rain water for rice farming.
