Rantings, Ravings, and Ramblings...
It is a sad time for the ROC. People are rude and disrespectful towards others. There is conflict not just between ‘newbies’ and veterans, but between everybody else. Let me elaborate.

Many newbies don’t respect veterans or anybody else—that’s a known fact. Something that I encountered first-hand is that they actually insult others because of the stature they hold at clubs and in role-playing circles. At INSU a few weeks ago, not only was my intelligence insulted by several people, but because of the rank I hold there, ‘I had no life other than the computer.’ That is perhaps the most pathetic display of jealousy and hypocrisy I have seen yet on the Internet. If people don’t want to gain rank and prominence, what’s the point of role-playing? Sitting around idly is not fun nor entertaining.

Neither is arguing all the time about trivial matters. I must confess, I like arguing. I do it a lot, but I try to limit myself to debates that have purposes and will end at some point in time. Perhaps the most common argument in chats is that one about who god-modes. One person will say another role-player god-modes, and the accused will say the same about the accuser. And, to make things worse, these people are too proud to admit that they’re ever wrong, so the dispute will never end.

Another thing that irritates me greatly is how newbies handle character deaths. No offense to anyone, but if you’re new, your character probably isn’t that well-developed. If so, you’re presumably creative enough to make another character that’s just as special, and now you’ll have more experience.

Veterans won’t escape my reproaches. Many stick to their own little circles, their little rings of friends. I’m guilty of sticking around one place and not getting out, I’m not a social person; I need to work on that. Many won’t give newcomers a chance to prove themselves. Wait and see what they’re really like before you pass your judgement on them, veterans. Many are bitter individuals with nothing better to do than ridicule others. I think it was Thumper’s mother in Bambi who said, “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.” I’m guilty of this sometimes as well. I do tend to get very forward and dictatorial, but only about what I think is common sense when it comes to Redwall-related things. Many need to wake up and see why we’re growing a crop of insolent, ignorant newbies. Vets need to pass their knowledge on in a polite manner so that newcomers will learn and want to learn. And newbies need to swallow their pride and ask for help in the same polite method. There we have it. All are at fault for making things the way they are. You’ll notice that I didn’t get into neutral characters, which I believe also have contributed the backsliding of the Redwall Online Community. Danged Swiss RPers...
