LOCATION
The site of the college was approximately 7 miles north of Manchester city centre, 1.5 miles north of Middleton and 4 miles south of Rochdale.  The buildings are set in 87 acres of green belt land of which 30 acres were sports fields.  Hopwood Hall is the ancestral home of the Hopwood family and there has been a residence on the site of the present Hall since the 12th Century.  Hopwood Hall is a scheduled building of historical importance.

PURPOSE AND SIZE OF THE COLLEGE
As a teacher training establishment De La Salle was an integral part of the national Catholic education provision.  The principal aim was the preparation of teachers for service in Catholic schools throughout the country.  In particular it sought to meet the needs of the schools of the Diocese of Salford in the subject of Religious Education.
The were approximately 800 students at De La Salle College, Hopwood Hall when at its peak.

STRUCTURE OF COURSES
Degrees obtained at De La Salle College were awarded by the University of Manchester to which the college was formally affiliated.
All the degree courses had a similar structure.  They required the study of three subjects during the first two years.  This was followed by the study of two of those subjects in subsequent years.
14 subjects could be studied to degree level.
The college also offered the Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

FACULTIES
There were four Faculties as follows.
· Faculty of Creative Arts and Physical Education
· Faculty of Educational Studies
· Faculty of Religious Studies and Humanities
· Faculty of Science, Mathematics and Geography
