This image is a scan of another postcard also thought to be from the 1950s.

This image of Hopwood Hall was scanned from the one and only edition (I think) of the De La Salle College rag mag.  Perhaps someone out there has a better image.
The rag mag was produced in 1988 in advance of the Reunion night held at Middleton Civic Hall.

The motto "Indivisa Manent" means "They remain undivided" or "May they remain undivided".

Degree ceremonies were held within Whitworth Hall at the Victorian University of Manchester, Oxford Road.  Ceremonies were usually held in mid-July.  This is a scanned image of the 1988 Ceremony booklet.  From the mid-1980s or so the ceremonies were videotaped.
For many the degree ceremony was the last time they saw their class mates.
One of the regulations of the University of Manchester was that if you attended a further graduation ceremony elsewhere then you had to wear the colours you wore at the Manchester graduation at that later ceremony.

This is an image of the science block which was located in front of the main library.
The two chemistry laboratries are on the ground level and nearest the camera.  The two physics laboratries are on the first floor.  Further back but within the same block and on the first floor are the two biology laboratries.  The mathematics room was located in the classroom at the end of this block on the ground floor.  Between maths and chemistry was a general workshop area (I think).  There was a further room - the computer room, in this block but it is out of site. The second block of classrooms further along the path were general classrooms.
The photo was taken on 7th July 1991 when the Heineken Music Festival was taking place on the college playing fields.

De La Salle College chapel was built prior to the Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral in Liverpool - see below.  

The architect for both was Sir Frederick Gibberd. The history of the the chapel and the Cathedral is detailed in Edwin Bannon's book (see credits web page.)

The chapel is set on the highest point in the college grounds and is a local landmark.

"Songs of Praise" was recorded at the chapel in the mid-1980s and also in 1967 when a video was made of the programme. The musical directors on the first occasion being David Bentley and Michael Callaghan.
