Lou Diamond Phillips: Recent Accomplishments

Lou Diamond Phillips was last seen on the big screen when he co-starred with Mark Wahlberg in the film The Big Hit He also recently starred in Courage Under Fire opposite Meg Ryan and Denzel Washington. His role in the film was well received and won him a Blockbuster Award.

Audiences first became acquainted with Phillips in 1986 when he won the role of Ritchie Valens in the movie La Bamba. He followed up his breakthrough performance with another starring role in 1987's Stand And Deliver. Stand and Deliver garnered Phillips critics' praise, an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor, and a Golden Globe nomination.

Phillips fulfilled a lifelong dream in 1996 when he opened on Broadway as the star of the musical The King & I. The production has earned six Tony nominations, including a Best Actor nomination for Phillips. Phillips run as the King also won the Outstanding Broadway Debut Award from the New York Outer Critics Circle.
