Levi was born the 10th child and the 8th son of Anthony and Sussanah Cole on August 21,1841 and died in 1907. Levi was Stephen Cole's brother and as such is my gggg-uncle. He married Sarah Nancy Guess on December 20,1866. She was born onDecember 18,1845 and died on May 5, 1924. They had at least 3 children. On September 10, 1861 at the age of 19 Levi voluteered for the Confederate armed forces. He was enlisted at Hillsborough, N.C. by Lieutenant William A. Graham "for the war". Archival records show that he served as a teamster and a cook. From the physical description of him on a 15 day furluogh dated Febuary 1,1863 Levi is described as being 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complextioned, blue eyes, light haired, and a farmer by profession. Confederate archival records indicate that Levi was employed on extra duty at Drewry's Bluff during November and December of 1862 as a driver (teamster) for which he received an extra $7.50.
