James was born second child and the second son of Anthony and Susannah Cole on September 11,1824 and died in April of 1865. On December 11,1846 he married Jane Latta, born in 1828 and died in the 1880's. Thet had 4 or 5 children. James was enlisted into the confederate armed forces by Captain John P. Lockhart on September 19,1861. On May 27,1863 he was "discharged by conscription act". I'm not sure what this means unless that due to his age at the time, 38, he was discharged and replaced by a conscript (draftee).
