Let's Go Mets! August 28 - HOME GAME #64 vs Boston Red Sox (58-69)

After skipping a start last weekend, Matt Harvey (11-7) hopes to continue the Mets winning ways against Henry Owens (2-1) and the Bosox. The Mets have a 7 game win streak going into the home stand after an 8-1 road trip that saw the return of the Captain David Wright.

71-57 +6.5

Lets Go Mets! A disappointing loss but with the Nationals also losing, the Mets maintain their 6.5 lead in the NL East. Matt Harvey pitched well with 6 innings, no runs, only 2 hits and struck out 8. Logan Verrett got lit up in the 7th, giving up HRs to Big Papa Ortiz and Jackie Bradley Jr. Carlos Torres got lit up in the 10th to give the Red Sox a 3 run lead. In the bottom of the 10th the Mets rallied but came up short as Yoenis Cespedes flew out to center with the bases loaded to end the game.

Game #64 view

With the Mets out on a long road trip and no home games for eleven days, I was missing the ballpark. I really did nothing for the nearly two weeks as it was hot outside and I was under the weather for a few days. It was nice to see my Citi Field family again, as I parked my car, as I entered the stadium, bought a beer and wandered around the stadium, I said hello to all the ushers, venders, and employees that I've become accustomed to seeing most games.

Nice to see David in the line up

For the first time in over four months, Mets team captain and leader David Wright was in the lineup at Citi Field. After a hamstring injury and months of rehab and rest for spinal stenosis, David was back with the Mets. He homered on his first swing back in Philadelphia and looks to have no visible effects from his injuries. A little rusty in the field for a few games but the bat is there and he has picked up where he left off in April.

Mets load the bases

In the top of the 10th, Boston catcher Blake Swihart hit a ball that went over Juan Largares' head and bounced off the wall in front of the Apple in center. I thought it was a home run as Swihart raced around the bases and scored. Every game account called it an inside-the-park home run but admitted replays showed the ball hit over the orange line that delineates a ball in play or a home run. But frustratingly to me, the media kept calling it an inside-the-park home run. Having to come back from two 3 run rallies by the Bosox, the Mets loaded the bases in the bottom of the tenth. They came just short of tying the score when Cespedes flew out to center to end the game.
