Let's Go Mets! August 1 - HOME GAME #55 vs Washington Nationals (54-47)

Jacob deGrom (10-6) faces Joe Ross (2-3) in game two of this important series.

54-50

Lets Go Mets! For the second day in a row the Mets won an exciting low scoring game against the Nationals. Today's hero, Lucas Duda, hit two home runs and unbelievably the Nats walked newest Met Yoenis Cespedes to face Duda in the 8th. He responded with a double in the left field gap to score the go ahead run. Jacob deGrom struggled early, giving up 2 first inning runs. The bullpen was terrific, allowing only a single in three innings to shut the door on Washington. The Mets are now only 1 game behind the Nationals in the NL East.

Ticket Cost: $161

Pregame excitement is building

A standing room only crowd of nearly 43,000 was abuzz as the Mets again beat the first place Nationals. Great seat again for this one, I got in early and while talking to my usual staff around the stadium, the ballpark started to fill earlier than usual with fans. The Shake Shack line was unbelievably long and I spent too much time wandering to get something to eat before the game without standing in line for innings. Luckily I was in the Delta Club seats with waiter service so I never had to get out of my seat during the game. I ended up having the beef tacos which are very good.

New Met Yoenis Cespedes ready for his 1st AB

In our section were a couple Washington fans. One in the row in front of me stood when Bryce Harper came up and taunted the Mets fans about how Harper was "The Man". After Robles struck out Harper he spent a few moments doing a mea culpa to everyone around him. I just heckled him. He shook my hand after the game on his way out but I had nothing nice to say to him.

Duda's second home run

The fireworks came early when Lucas Duda homered in the 4th and 7th. Duda has homered 8 times in his last 7 games to break out of his previous 2 month slump big time. The second largest crowd in Citi Field history gave him a huge ovation after his run scoring double. The sell out crowd was loud and most stayed for the after game fireworks having already enjoyed Duda's fireworks with the bat.

Huge Win!

"That's pretty awesome," Duda said. "The fans have been great all year, especially the last two nights. They've been essential to us winning. I can't say enough about the fans -- best fans in baseball." - Lucas Duda after the game
