Salve/Balm Recipe

Herbal Balm

2 oz herb infused olive oil **
1 oz cocoa butter
1 oz shea butter
1 oz beeswax
1/2 teaspoon of lavender essential oil
1/2 teaspoon of tea tree essential oil

**Firstly make up a hot infusion of calendula, chamomile and lavender.  In a saucepan put 2 cups of olive oil.  Add to this 1/3 cup each of calendula petals, chamomile petals and lavender buds.  Very gently simmer on a low heat for approximately 1 hour.  (You don't want to overheat this and fry your herbs.)  At the end of the hour, strain the oil into a seal-able jar and
discard the herbs.  The infused olive oil can be kept in the refrigerator for some time and can even be used directly onto cuts, scraps, rashes etc.**

Then to make the balm:

On the stove top or in a microwave melt your butters and beeswax.  If using a microwave take the container out just before all the bits have finally melted and then stir until the last of it melts - this saves it from getting too hot.  You now need to add your room temperature infused olive oil and stir in well.  Then add your essential oils.  You want to add the essential oils last and after you have cooled the mix down by adding the room temperature olive oil, so that the essential oils are not being damaged by too much heat.

Decant into a wide necked cream jar and let set.
