Lotion Bars

So, what is a lotion bar, anyway?

Lotion bars are lotion in solid form.  They are usually made from combining beeswax and other oils.  You can them in deodorant type of containers or in a soap mold..  Best of all, they are easy to make and quite wonderful on your skin!

How do I make them?

I find that a double boiler is usually the best method of melting the ingredients as it doesn't get the oils so hot that you melt your container.  Based on that, simple directions are:

  1. Prepare your double boiler.

  2. Measure the ingredients.

  3. Melt

  4. Pour into molds

  5. Allow to harden

  6. Use and enjoy!

What can I use as a mold?

As mentioned above, you can use deodorant containers.  You can also use individual soap molds (such as Milky Way molds).  Dixie cup containers also work well.  Just be sure they can hold hot liquids.  You're only as limited as your imagination!

What's a good recipe for lotion bars?

Basic Lotion Bar
1 oz beeswax
1 oz coconut oil
1 oz shea butter
Essential oil/fragrance oil to preference - optional

You can substitute other oils for the shea butter and coconut oil.  Many people love to use cocoa butter in their lotion bars.  Experiment and find the mixture that you prefer.

As with lip balms, these are considered a cosmetic, so please be aware of the FDA requirements if you want to sell these.
