Madison Southern defeated Harlan County by a score of 27-20 before a packed house in an example of what high school football should be like in a playoff atmosphere on a Friday night in late fall.  Harlan County held a 20-13 lead late in the game before Madison Southern scored on a one yard run by Carter Smith and Baylor Willis kicked the conversion kick to tie the game at 20-20.  Madison Southern recovered a fumble on their 17 yard line with 1:18 left on the clock.  The Eagles went 83 yards on four plays ending with a 27 yard run by Carter Smith to the end zone shedding tackles along the way and a conversion kick by Baylor Willis to make the score 27-20 with 46 seconds on the clock.  The Eagles held on for the victory and punched their ticket to the championship game.  Madison Southern recorded 15 first downs and 324 yards of total offense.  The Eagles were penalized six times for 73 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.  Harlan County recorded 16 first downs and 271 yards of total offense.  The Black Bears were penalized eight times for 49 yards and lost a fumble.

Carter Smith led Madison Southern’s ground game with 151 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries.  Landen Stacy carried the ball 15 times for 70 yards and a touchdown.  Nathaniel Eads carried the ball once for 27 yards.  Landen Stacy completed 10 of 11 passes for 61 yards with one interception.  Nathaniel Eads caught five passes for 30 yards.  Carter Smith added two receptions for 23 yards.  Noah Hughes returned one kickoff for 23 yards.  Carter Smith punted three times for a 41.0 average with a long punt of 43 yards.  Carter Smith led the defense with six solo and five assisted tackles.  Alex Knuckles added five solo and two assisted tackles.  Hunter Richardson recorded four solo and three assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a six yard loss.  TJ Estes recorded two solo and one assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling nine yards. 

Tyrese Simmons led Harlan County’s ground game with 82 yards and a touchdown on five carries.  Quentin Mickens carried the ball 21 times for 78 yards and a touchdown.  Colby Cochran completed five of 14 passes for 64 yards.  Tyrese Simmons caught three passes for 48 yards.  Tyrese Simmons returned four kickoffs for 64 yards.  Marcus Kelly kicked off five times with four touchbacks.  Garry Henson led the defense with three solo and six assisted tackles with 1.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling two yards.  Tyrese Simmons added four solo and four assisted tackles.  Caleb Carmical recorded one solo and seven assisted tackles.  Jacob Branson recovered a fumble and Devon Rodrigues intercepted a pass.

Both teams came out swinging for the fences and combined for a total of 83 points and 947 yards of total offense.  St. Xavier’s Anthony Moretti ensured a St. Xavier 48-35 victory with an 80 yard touchdown run with 8:27 left in the game.  St. Xavier led 41-21 late in the third quarter but Austin Barnett scored on two short touchdown runs to pull the Cardinals within six points; 41-35 with 8:43 left tin the game but then Moretti put the dagger in the Cardinals heart with his long scoring run.  St. Xavier utilized a balanced offense with four rushing touchdowns and three through the air.  Turnovers hurt Scott County tonight as they lost a fumble and had four passes intercepted.  St. Xavier recorded 18 first downs and 463 yards of total offense.  The Tigers were penalized 10 times for 81 yards and lost a fumble.  Scott County recorded 27 first downs and 484 yards of total offense.  The Cardinals were penalized six times for 50 yards, lost a fumble, and had four passes intercepted.

Anthony Moretti led St. Xavier’s ground game with 179 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.  Jack Albers carried the ball 10 times for 56 yards and two touchdowns.  Jack Albers completed 11 of 18 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns.  Cameron Garrett caught three passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns.  Will Crum added three receptions for 35 yards.  Ben Mueller caught two passes for 93 yards and a touchdown.  Patrick Owen led the defense with nine solo tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling nine yards.  Andrew Uhls added eight solo tackles.  Sam Boarman recorded seven solo tackles.  Jude Conlon recorded six solo tackles and intercepted two passes with return yardage of 18 yards.  Doug Shaffner intercepted a pass he returned for 28 yards and Evan Walker also recorded an interception.  Ben Shugart recovered a fumble.

Brice Fryman led scott County’s ground game with 154 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.  Austin Barnett carried the ball 27 times for 129 yards and four touchdowns.  Payton Brown carried the ball six times for 66 yards.  Josh Davis completed 10 of 22 passes for 128 yards with four interceptions.  Glenn Covington caught eight passes for 84 yards.  Landon Easley added one reception for 26 yards.  Sam Sutton led the defense with six solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a two yard loss and recovered a fumble.  Berk Watts and Bryan Hudson each recorded five solo tackles.  Cooper Robb added four solo tackles.

Eastern Kentucky earned a 14-10 come-from-behind victory over Saint Francis.  The deciding play came in the final quarter as Eastern Kentucky’s Steven Crowder blocked a punt and the Colonels recovered on Saint Francis 34 yard line.  LJ Scott carried the ball five straight times culminating in a 7 yard touchdown run and a conversion kick by Lucas Williams.  TM Comstock intercepted a pass late in the game to ensure the victory.  Eastern Kentucky University recorded 10 first downs and 220 yards of total offense.  The Colonels were penalized five times for 33 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.  Saint Francis recorded 15 first downs and 255 yards of total offense.  The Red Flash were penalized eight times for 70 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.

LJ Scott led Eastern Kentucky’s ground game with 41 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.  Daryl McCleskey carried the ball 10 times for 39 yards.  Ethan Thomas added 32 yards on eight carries.  Austin Scott carried the ball once for one yard and a touchdown.  Tim Boyle completed 11 of 17 passes for 66 yards with one interception.  Austin Scott completed three of three passes for 42 yards.  Dan Paul caught three passes for 43 yards.  Ryan Markush added three receptions for 22 yards.  Daryl McCleskey caught two passes for 24 yards.  Jeffrey Canady led the defense with five solo and 10 assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a six yard loss.  Kobie Grace added three solo and five assisted tackles.  Leonard Humphrey recorded two solo and four assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in an eight yard loss.  Luder Jean Louis recovered a fumble and TJ Comstock intercepted a pass.  Keith Wrzuszczak punted four times for a 46 yard average with a long punt of 59 yards.

Byron Johnson led the Saint Francis ground game with 80 yards on 20 carries.  Bear Fenimore scored on a one yard touchdown run.  Bear Fenimore completed 11 of 25 passes for 164 yards.  Jorge Solano caught five passes for 58 yards.  Cyrus Holder added two receptions for 43 yards.  Byron Johnson caught one pass for 30 yards.  Eric Bofenkamp kicked off three times for a 65.0 average and three touch backs.  Andrew Zecca punted three times for a 48.3 average with a long punt of 68 yards.  Zane Stewart led the defense with three solo and four assisted tackles.  Sean Orsini added two solo and five assisted tackles and intercepted a pass he returned seven yards.  Louis Gartner recovered a fumble.

Class 2A Playoffs

 

Christian Academy of Louisville 24  DeSales 3 – Milton Wright scored on a 27 yard run, caught a 51 yard touchdown reception, and an 80 yard kickoff return to lead CAL to a victory over previously undefeated DeSales.

 

Danville 49  Lexington Christian Academy 7 – Zach Thornton completed 13 of 18 passes for 296 yards and four touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns.

 

Glasgow 40  Monroe County 14 – Tanner Abernathy completed 10 of 15 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns and carried the ball 14 times for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

Class 3A Playoffs

 

Boyle County 57  Lexington Catholic 15 – Tanner Crawford carried the ball 28 times for 267 yards and four touchdowns.

 

Central 60  Belfry 21 – Rico White completed 11 of 12 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns.

 

Corbin 50  Powell County 14 – Cameron Sizemore completed seven of eight passes for 215 yards and four touchdowns.

 

Elizabethtown 52  Caldwell County 6 – Jay Becherer carried the ball eight times for 123 yards and a touchdown.

 

Class 4A Playoffs

 

Collins 34  Mercer County 28 – JR Lucas ran for 160 yards and three touchdowns and passed for two more touchdowns.

 

Franklin-Simpson 35  Hopkinsville 20 – Franklin-Simpson trailed 20-0 but scored 35 unanswered points for the victory.

 

Johnson Central 54  Ashland Blazer 27 – Devin Johnson carried the ball 20 times for 128 yards and two touchdowns and Curtis Dorton added 65 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries.

 

Wayne County 45  Western 18 – Lorenzo Linsey completed 11 of 20 passes for 160 yards and three touchdowns.

 

Class 5A Playoffs

 

Covington Catholic 49  South Oldham 7 – AJ Mayer completed 13 of 18 passes for 204 yards and five touchdowns.

 

Harlan County 23  Southwestern 18 – Quintin Mickens scored two touchdowns to lead the Black Bears.

 

Madison Southern 61  Montgomery County 20 – Landen Stacy completed six of 10 passes for 125 yards and three touchdowns and carried the ball 12 times for 106 yards and three touchdowns.

 

South Warren 28  Bowling Green 21 – Christian Winn carried the ball 35 times for 166 yards and three touchdowns.

 

Class 6A Playoffs

 

Scott County 45  Frederick Douglass 13 – Brice Fryman carried the ball 18 times for 284 yards and two touchdowns.

 

St. Xavier 45  Butler 18 – Jack Albers ran for two touchdowns and passes for two more scores.

 

Trinity 49  Simon Kenton 17 – Rondale Moore caught 11 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns and carried the ball nine times for 101 yards and a touchdown.

Christian Academy of Louisville defeated DeSales 24-3 to capture the regional championship and improve their record to 11-2.  This was the first loss for DeSales who finished an excellent campaign with a 12-1 record.  CAL’s Milton Wright was the difference tonight as he caught a 51 yard touchdown pass, returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown, and added a 27 yard touchdown run.  Christian Academy of Louisville recorded 11 first downs and 206 yards of total offense.  The Centurions were penalized seven times for 45 yards.  DeSales recorded eight first downs and 139 yards of total offense.  The Colts were penalized five times for 63 yards and had a pass intercepted.

Brandt Babin led CAL’s ground game with 81 yards on 18 carries.  Milton Wright carried the ball three times for 42 yards and a touchdown.  Austin Carr completed three of seven passes for 46 yards and a touchdown.  Milton Wright caught three passes for 46 yards and a touchdown.  Milton Wright returned two kickoffs for 103 yards including an 80 yard return for a touchdown.  Nicholas Olsofk led the defense with five solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a 10 yard loss.  Braden Hafling and Luke Paulson each recorded three solo and one assisted tackles.  Ryan Lagestee intercepted a pass.

Aaron Pfaadt led DeSales ground game with 52 yards on eight carries.  Chase Pfaadt carried the ball 15 times for 46 yards.  Antion Johnson completed three of eight passes for 11 yards with one interception.  Aaron Pfaadt completed two of seven passes for 20 yards.  AJ O’Shea caught two passes for 17 yards.  Omari Milligan led the defense with four solo and three assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a two yard loss.  Alex Schneider added three solo and four assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling four yards.  DeJuan Watkins recorded two solo and four assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in an eight yard loss.  Justin Ngo added two solo and two assisted tackles with 1.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 11 yards.

Covington Catholic continues to slice through the competition with a 49-7 victory to claim the regional championship and improve to 13-0 for the season.  South Oldham finished their season with a 10-2 record.  Covington Catholic recorded 18 first downs and 376 yards of total offense.  The Colonels were penalized three times for 35 yards.  South Oldham recorded 13 first downs and 235 yards of total offense.  They were penalized three times for 28 yards, lost two fumbles, and had a pass intercepted.

G. Dyer led Covington Catholic’s ground game with 39 yards and a touchdown on three carries.  C. McGinness carried the ball 12 times for 37 yards.  S. Schuh added 25 yards on two carries.  J. Shriver carried the ball three times for 11 yards and a touchdown.  AJ Mayer completed 13 of 18 passes for 204 yards and five touchdowns.  M. Pike caught four passes for 80 yards and a touchdown.  J. Coldiron added three receptions for 34 yards and two touchdowns.  C. McGinness recorded two catches for 63 yards and a touchdown.  S. Schuh caught a 16 yard touchdown reception.  C. McGinness returned two punts for 65 yards with a long return of 33 yards.  K. Butler led the defense with six solo and one assisted tackles with 1.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling five yards.  M. Pike added two solo and three assisted tackles.  A. Schneider intercepted a pass and G. Dyer and T. Bayer each recovered a fumble.

K. Martin led South Oldham’s ground game with 55 yards on 12 carries.  JT Benson carried the ball six times for 40 yards.  D. Zaubi added 35 yards on six carries.  D. Zaubi completed five of 13 passes for 79 yards and a touchdown with one interception.  JT Benson caught three passes for 18 yards.  E. Bednarczyk caught one pass for 48 yards and a touchdown.  J. Harold led the defense with nine solo tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling four yards.  S. Hoagland added four solo tackles with one of his losses resulting in a four yard loss.  Z. Moore also recorded four solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a one yard loss.

Danville led 14-7 at halftime but pulled away in the second half to defeat Lexington Christian Academy 49-7 to earn the regional championship.  Danville QB Zach Thornton threw for four touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns and Dmauriae VanCleave caught two touchdown passes and scored on an interception to lead the Admirals tonight.  LCA was missing one of their primary weapons QB Logan Nieves who suffered a late season ACL injury and star RB Dillon Wheatley was effectively bottled up by the swarming Danville defense.  Danville recorded 16 first downs and 375 yards of total offense.  The Admirals were penalized five times for 30 yards.  LCA recorded 19 first downs and 307 yards of total offense.  The Eagles were penalized four times for 25 yards and had a pass intercepted.

Donlevy Harris led Danville’s ground game with 43 yards on seven carries.  Zach Thornton carried the ball 16 times for 22 yards and two touchdowns.  Zach Thornton completed 13 of 18 passes for 296 yards and four touchdowns.  Dmauriae VanCleave caught seven passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns.  Jaleel Warren added two receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown.  Tanner Ford added a 34 yard touchdown reception.  Chase Tandy led the defense with eight solo and three assisted tackles with four of his tackles resulting in losses.  Christian Hill added five solo and five assisted tackles.  Kishown Brown also recorded five solo and five assisted tackles.  Dmauriae VanCleave added four solo and one assisted tackles and intercepted a pass he returned 55 yards for a touchdown.

Dillon Wheatley led Lexington Christian Academy’s ground game with 105 yards on 26 carries.  Josh McClurg carried the ball 12 times for 25 yards.  Josh McClurg completed 28 of 36 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown with one interception.  Ryan Stucky caught seven passes for 58 yards.  Caelen Lebryk added five receptions for 56 yards.  Drayden Burton recorded 10 receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown.  Drayden Burton returned three kickoffs for 52 yards.  Jonathan Kaufmann led the defense with three solo and five assisted tackles.  Blane Hardin added one solo and six assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses.  Drew Long recorded four solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in lost yardage.

Madison Southern defeated Montgomery County 61-20 to capture the region championship and improve to 10-3 for the season.  Montgomery County finished their season with a 10-3 record.  The score was tied 14-14 late in the second quarter but Madison Southern scored 21 points in the final 2:25 of the second quarter to lead 35-14 at halftime.  Montgomery County trailed 28-14 in the closing seconds of the half and elected to pass but the pass was intercepted by Nathaniel Eads who returned the pick 36 yards for a touchdown with eight seconds left in the half to take total control of the game.  Madison Southern recorded 19 first downs and 490 yards of total offense.  The Eagles were penalized 12 times for 79 yards.  Montgomery County recorded 16 first downs and 339 yards of total offense.  The Indians were penalized once for 11 yards, lost two fumbles, and had a pass intercepted.

Carter Smith led Madison Southern’s ground game with 120 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.  Landen Stacy carried the ball 12 times for 106 yards and three touchdowns.  Alex Knuckles added 60 yards and a touchdown on two carries.  Nathaniel Eads carried the ball four times for 42 yards.  Hunter Richardson added 37 yards on three carries.  Landen Stacy completed six of 10 passes for 125 yards and three touchdowns.  Tobias Storm caught two passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns.  Clay Tinsley added two receptions for 26 yards.  Carter Smith added a 27 yard receptions and Seth Shepherd caught an eight yard touchdown reception.  Tobias Storm returned one kickoff for 49 yards.  Nathaniel Eads led the defense with seven solo and one assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a two yard loss, recovered a fumble he returned 19 yards, and scored on a 36 yard interception return.  Alex Knuckles added three solo and four assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a two yard loss.  Carter Smith recorded four solo and two assisted tackles.  Jordan Casteel added three solo tackles and recovered a fumble.

Charles Collins led Montgomery County’s ground game with 188 yards and one touchdown on 24 carries.  Gage Jones carried the ball 16 times for 90 yards and two touchdowns.  Trey Ishmael completed one of 10 passes for 38 yards with one interception.  Pharoah Davis caught one pass for 38 yards.  Jay Eads led the defense with five solo and three assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling six yards.  Charles Collins added five solo and two assisted tackles.  Tyler Hamm and Tyler Jacobs each recorded five solo and one assisted tackles.

Boyle County dominated action tonight and defeated Lexington Catholic 57-16 to improve their record to 12-1 and earn a regional title.  Lexington Catholic finished the season at 7-6.  Boyle County gained 372 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground on 44 carries.  Boyle County recorded 25 first downs and 487 yards of total offense.  The Rebels were penalized eight times for 57 yards and had a pass intercepted.  Lexington Catholic recorded six first downs and 208 yards of total offense.  The Knights were penalized seven times for 121 yards and lost two fumbles.

Tanner Crawford led Boyle County’s ground game with 267 yards and four touchdowns on 28 carries.  Landen Bartleson carried the ball 11 times for 67 yards and two touchdowns.  Reed Lanter completed eight of 10 passes for 115 yards and one touchdown with one interception.  Nick Walker caught three passes for 27 yards.  Reese Smith caught one pass for 27 yards.  Landen Bartleson caught a 17 yard touchdown pass.  Ezarious Roller led the defense with four solo and one assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a two yard loss.  Reese Smith and Grant Hotchkiss each recorded three solo tackles.  Blake Biggs recovered a fumble.

Dameon Jones led Lexington Catholic’s ground game with 29 yards on eight carries.  Nathan Schnurr scored a touchdown on a 69 yard run.  Beau Allen completed 10 of 23 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown.  Trenton Neuer caught three passes for 46 yards.  Gavin Cameron added three receptions for 25 yards and a touchdown.  Dameon Jones caught one pass for 28 yards.  Trenton Neuer returned one kickoff for 57 yards.  Clay Callahan led the defense with nine solo and three assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a two yard loss.  Kevin Brown added eight solo and one assisted tackles.  Jake Topley recorded six solo and one assisted tackles.  Henry Holthaus added six solo tackles and intercepted a pass.

Scott County captured the regional championship and improved to 11-2 with a 45-13 victory over Frederick Douglass who finished the season at 10-3.  Scott County recorded 21 first downs and 520 yards of total offense.  The Cardinals were penalized 11 times for 83 yards and lost two fumbles.  Frederick Douglass recorded 17 first downs and 355 yards of total offense.  The Broncos were penalized seven times for 52 yards, lost two fumbles, and had a pass intercepted.

Brice Fryman led Scott County’s ground game tonight with 284 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries   Austin Barnett carried the ball 23 times for 79 yards and two touchdowns.  Payton Brown added 55 yards on 11 carries.  Josh Davis completed six of 10 passes for 58 yards.  Glenn Covington caught six passes for 58 yards.  Berk Watts led the defense with five solo and one assisted tackles, recovered a fumble, and scored on a 17 yard interception return.  Cade Mullins added four solo and two assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a two yard loss.  Cooper Robb recorded four solo tackles.  Bronson Brown added two solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a seven yard loss and recovered a fumble he returned 27 yards.

Jefferson Harkless led Douglass’ ground game with 34 yards and five carries.  Gavin Bugg completed 20 of 42 passes for 302 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  Haiden Hunt caught nine passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns.  Micah Lowe added six receptions for 78 yards.  Brion Thomas caught two passes for 36 yards.  Haiden Hunt returned two kickoffs for 66 yards with a long return of 47 yards.  Devin Neal led the defense with 10 solo and one assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a 17 yard loss.  D. Christopher added seven solo and one assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling six yards. Romel Croley recorded six solo and three assisted tackles and recovered a fumble.  Jaylin Bybee added four solo and one assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling eight yards.  Dayton LeBlanc also recovered a fumble.
